Has anyone had vestibular neurititis?

Another name for it is labyrinthitis. I started feeling dizzy a few weeks ago. Then two weeks ago I was sat at my desk writing, my vision went black and I felt like I was falling. Embarrassingly, I shouted out 'waaa!' and slammed my hands down on my desk to stop myself from falling. Felt horribly dizzy all afternoon. I went to the doctors who diagnosed vestibular neurititis based on my symptoms. He did some blood tests and prescribed tablets. I have another appointment Monday. I haven't taken the tablets as, after I had got them, the information leaflet said they must not be taken by a person if they or any members of their immediate family had previously had a blood clot. My mum, both maternal aunts and my maternal grandma have all had a dvt and one of them had a PE. My family history meant I had to take aspirin during pregnancy and inject blood thinners after birth. I couldnt get hold of my gp so decided not to risk it and to just muddle on until my appointment on Monday. I feel shocking. It comes in waves. My ears feel like there is pressure behind them and I feel so nauseous. I can also hear a faint, high pitched ringing at times. I am really struggling with noise too. Lots of voices all talking at once sends my head into a spin. Earlier, I was out with my family and we were in an old farm house that was built at funny angles and had a slightly uneven floor. I felt like I was going to faint, the whole room felt like it was moving. Im finding that it is making me feel tired and when it is really bad, I feel a bit confused - like I cant focus or string an articulate sentence together.
I am desperately looking for advice on how to manage this, reassurance that it will get better and someone to say they understand.

Don't move too quickly, don't move your head from side to side, keep your eyes open and focus ahead of you. It is miserable and you are doing well being up and about.

Thanks. I am bloody miserable. I hate it.

I found travel sickness tablets helped me, obviously don't take without talking to Dr, but I wonder whether the travel sickness wrist bands might help you?

My DP has this and has been unwell for the last 5 weeks. He has been given exercises to work on his balance and it’s slowly improving but he cannot drive (his choice) due to the lack of balance and dizziness. He had a constant headache too. He’s tried nasal sprays and decongestant as well as regular painkillers.
A few people have suggested cranial osteopathy but he has yet to try that.
I hope you recover quickly.

I've had this twice! Both times it's literally knocked me off my feet and I was signed off work for 3 weeks as my job is quite physical and I couldn't walk in a straight line!
I was prescribed Cinnarizine for the nausea the first time, and prochlorperazine the second time.
It truly is awful op and unfortunately you just have to ride it out. It took me about 6 weeks to feel "normal".
Bright lights, crowds, and noise made me feel worse. I walked like I'd been out drinking all night Grin
Even now I occasionally feel off balance, particularly if I move my head too quickly. I just tried to rest as much as I could, which is easier said than done!
I hope you start to feel better soon Thanks

Just seen a consultant who thinks I have this. Has told me not to take Prochoreprazine prescribed by GP. Says I’ll do better getting rehab exercises. I trust him as he specialises in balance / damage to vestibular function.

@LokiBear pulling this thread out the depths in the hope you can remember how this turned out for you? I'm suffering the same but it's going on months now.
