Keeping a Dog in a cage?

My boyfriend has just got a beautiful dog from a rescue centre but on a night he has it sleeping in his cage and also when he is out during the day.
I don't like it,I have a dog and he is free to wander where he likes,he sleeps in my room and jumps on the bed etc.
I just don't like it,is it just me that thinks a dog doesn't belong in a cage?

Don't really know too much about dogs but thought this would of had to be done since the dog was a pup. It does seem a long time during the day . My sister did something similar with hers but they had it from being a pup now it take it's self off into it's cage spend alot of time in there but they don't ever shut the door on it now.

This practice is widespread in the USA and now appears to be becoming so in the UK.
In the right hands I am sure that using a crate can be ok but so many people abuse them.

I wouldn’t do it personally, but some dogs get v destructive when left alone with too much space

When I was in my early twenties, my dear friend and her new family found it difficult to manage the dog and the new baby, and decided to lock it up for hours on end... I had to intervene and advised my friend that clearly they could not cope with the dog and the baby; the dog was a wonderful character and had so much love to give; after many months the friends finally took my advice and the dog was given to a shelter.

Psychological problems in dogs begin when people don't know how to raise and treat a dog from puppy to adult. Clearly the separation anxiety was part of a trauma the dog had experienced early in life.

I suggest anyone thinking of getting a puppy this Christmas first learn about what I dog needs emotionally before taking on the challenge.

Anyone thinking about getting a puppy this Christmas - DON'T.

A cage and a kennel while owners on holiday are entirely different things. There is no room for proper movement in a crate type cage. A kennel has a living/sleeping area which itself is bigger/wider/taller than a crate plus a long run.
