I’ve been dizzy for a week now and finally figured out it’s vertigo.
I’ve never had it before, how do I get rid of it? I feel daft going to the dr over dizziness, would prefer to get rid of it myself if I can.

Does anyone have any tips please?

Stay on the ground, don't stand when you can sit, and don't sit when you can lie down.

I had that once. Cured it by giving birth about 7.5 months later....

Any chance you might be pregnant?

Sausagefingers9 · 08/12/2018 12:31

God I hope not! Very much doubt it.

Agree with pp about seeing a gp.

Could be something relatively benign like labyrinthitis or it could be something more serious like a tia (transient eschiemic attack or mini stroke). How is your blood pressure?

Go to the doctor - try and get an ENT referral. It can be a debilitating condition so do not feel like it’s a stupid thing to go to the doctor over. There is medication and there are the mysterious ‘head and neck vestibular exercises’ that patients with dizziness used to be sent for when I worked in an ENT clinic.

Can’t get to the GP until Monday. Pretty sure it is something to do with my ears as they do feel a bit sore.

Def see gp. I’ve suffered with it on and off over 6 years. It’s ear related and has many causes. Going by your symptoms your go will determine which type and if it can be relieved in any way.

Hi OP I've had mild BPV on and off for about 5 years now and on the whole find a combination of previous posters suggestions keep it manageable. Occasionally when I'm driving it can be a bit scary (although this happens so rarely that I can't decide to pack in driving IYSWIM?).

Def agree see your GP and you'll hopefully get a referral to a specialist. Annoyingly the day of my appointment my head decided to have a day off from symptoms Confused.

His diagnosis was mine may actually be a symptom of migraines (I suffer often from them). Regardless my triggers for the vertigo seem to be booze, tiredness and stress. So life basically!

Hope you feel better soon I know for some people it can be horribly debilitating.

Thanks

I went to the GP yesterday having suffered with dizziness for about a week. She diagnosed vertigo and prescribed medication. I'm to go back in 2 weeks if it hasn't improved. Definitely not daft for you to see your GP. Good luck!

I had vertigo in May for the first time. Eventually it got very bad; I was lying weakly on the bed and DH rang 111. When they heard that my heart rate was very low, less than 40 beats per minute, they sent an ambulance, I was rushed to hospital, put in the cardiology unit and fitted with a pacemaker the next day.

Do not let your vertigo remain undiagnosed, else you could be like me, thinking it would get better but in fact quietly dying and only saved by DH having the sense to ring 111.

I've had vertigo on & off ever since I was a teenager I can go months with no symptoms but when I get it bad it's like being so drunk you can't even stand up, lying down doesn't help and I'm constantly being sick or feeling so nauseous I can't eat. Does wonders for my weight lol. With me its definitely related to moving my head as I'm generally OK if I can keep still.

I had some investigations done when I was in my 20s & told basically that I had to learn to live with it. I get prochlorperazine on prescription to help with the worst of the nausea.

I happened to be having an attack last time I visited the GP for something else - it's a new guy I've not seen before. Long story short, after a few tests he decided I have a condition called BPPV. There are exercises that can help.

Thanks everyone, definitely going to get to the gp tomorrow as it seems to be getting worse. No other symptoms thankfully.
