Got offered a job today, lunchtime supervisor which I accepted.I haven't worked in 5 years as sahm and I'm terrified!
It's a middle school and in the interview the HT said it was a hard job due to the answering back from children etc etc.Can anyone with background in a school give me any tips to not come across as the typical new starter.Ive only ever worked in office before .Tia

MIL works in a middle school as a TA and lunch time supervisor. Her advice in a no nonsense approach - set your stall out early. Firm but fair and try to get to know the kids, they learn to trust you that way. We can't walk through our local town without children past and present coming up to her to talk!

Oh and congrats on getting the job!!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 07/12/2018 15:33

Absolutely no experience but what the previous poster said. Start as you mean to go on. Take no nonsense from the off, zero tolerance approach. I think kids like to know where they stand and would hate for you to have favourites. I hope it isn’t as bad as you fear! Congrats Flowers

No experience with your particular situation but as a child of teachers I agree with the above post, you can start off firm and become more relaxed and with the students once you've established respect. It's much much harder to start off relaxed and too easy going and then try to get tough later on and still expect them to respect your authority. I'm sure many will disagree with me but I stand by this philosophy. Friendly but firm and good luck!

Its the thought of being firm voiced with someone else's child that's daunting me

Stand in front of the mirror and practise your unamused 'dont fuck with me sunshine' stare.
