To think I should get antibiotics ffs

I never insist on antibiotics but this time I don't trust the doctors.

Over four months I've spoken to four different doctors all saying different things and none of them listen.

I got labrynthitis end of May. My ear was red and sore and first doc said it was viral. Fair enough. After two months I go to another doctor who's disinterested. Then symptoms get worse again. One doc says it's my ear crystals. Another says it's eustacian tube dysfunction.

The thing is I'm bulimic of 15 years and now the pressure of vomiting makes me gets very bad sinuses. My eyes pour with water and my nose burns and pours. In the summer I was trying to get vit D so spent a while sunbathing in the 30 degree heat plus I would sweat copious amounts during vomiting. I also wore ill fitting earplugs. My sinuses became blocked and I also injured my ear and then I get labrythitus.

Surely this could be bacterial if there was fluid and heat and ear damage. I'm scared I've done permanent damage by seeing docs who say it's just inflamed and not infected. How can they tell though? On google it says they can't? !

Aibu to just want antibiotics and not care about my resistance as it's ruining my life!

Since the ear and the throat are connected via the Eustachian tube I suspect the bulemia and the labyrinthitis are connected as well.

Ask your GP to do the Epley manoeuvre if they haven’t already. I had labyrinthitis for months, saw a new GP and she did this strange voodoo and it went overnight.

My DH presented with vertigo at doctor and was told the same - this went on for a while, finally saw a specialist privately and basically it was bacterial and damage was caused which could not be reversed. He has had on going problems with ears since childhood so not saying this is the same for you but in the UK they are very resistant to prescribing antibiotics for right or wrong reasons depending on what you believe.

Have you tried doing some vestibular rehabilitation exercises? Vestibular rehab is what the specialists suggest for prolonged labyrinthitis (see NICE CKS guidelines). Throw in some Brandt-Daroff manouvres for good measure in case it's BPPV.
All info leaflets available after a quick Google and YouTube videos too.

Sorry only can just quickly type again. Have read all replies. Thanks for different perspectives.

Labyrinthitis in adults is not usually bacterial- therefore antibiotics are unlikely to help. I had it a couple of years ago following a cold- I got dizzy turning over in bed , was not very mobile for a couple of weeks and was told not to drive for considerable period. Some anti-nauseants help but can make you drowsy.

Like others have said, please seek help for your bulminia

MarcieBluebell · 08/12/2018 01:29

The other thing was I cut my throat with my nails severly and it was very sore with ulcers so swallowing was painful a week before it started. Could this have caused infection. Plus I think I damaged my middle ear. Like I said have blocked sinus problems as well.

I just feel its not typical. Will get ent refereal. Sorry those who waited so long.

I have had help in the past but as anyone knows with addictions it's ready not simple but thanks for concern. Tbh my life is more shit trying to stop bulimia than accepting it. Without it I have absolutely nothing. Am cold turkey again for a bit and it's hell.

You, op, are a doctors dream case 😏
Bloody hell! What do you want? There’s no magic wand you know!
Seek treatment for your bulimia. I’m sorry that you feel so shitty but you really have to start taking responsibility for you own health.

MarcieBluebell · 08/12/2018 01:47

Honestly I needed a moan on here. From docs I needed them to not talk over me, tell me different things and a referral would have been good. The bulimia I don't expect anyone to help with as my responsibility. My ear problems yes I wanted more help after four months. Anyway thanks those that listened to me moan.

You can moan all you want on MN but take a little time to think about your effect on the NHS.

Wow. I need to sort out my ears yes but have hardly used the nhs before that. I have tried more than you would know to stop vomiting but it's not a simple problem to fix. Literally I can't explain how much I've tried.

Your vomiting and ear issues are physically connected. Stopping the vomiting (or realistically reducing it) will improve your ears and sinus problems.
