To wonder what Keeley Hawes has on the BBC?

She's been in so many BBC dramas but she always plays the same person, sort of vaguely posh. Maybe Line of Duty was a bit different but she's back to the same schtick in Mrs Wilson this week.

There are so many actresses around and yet she always appears?

she was great in the first thing I saw her in, with Philip Glennister. Ashes to Ashes, i also love her in The Durrells

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 06/12/2018 21:16

Love her in LofD & the durrell.

I’ve began to loathe Nicola walker

PrincessScarlett · 06/12/2018 21:17

KH was awesome in Spooks and definitely a world away from her more recent roles.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 06/12/2018 21:17

keeley has 3 children!

GaryBaldbiscuit · 06/12/2018 21:19

nicola walker was great in the first thing i saw her in with Stellen Skarsgard, in River
but the most recent things I went off her

WoahBaby · 06/12/2018 21:20

Ah yeah, that is true of Nicola walker. Bit of a mess, says arse a lot but seems to get the shags??! I do really like all these ladies we're talking about. You know you're always going to get quality acting but yeah, I think the roles are a bit narrow too.
I loved Thandie Newton in line of duty. Bloody hell, that was a good series!!

RazaShah · 06/12/2018 21:39

Oh yes Nicola Walker! I loved her but now I've realised her acting "thing" not so much.

*Her and Suranne Jones are interchangeable in my head

Glad it's not just me!*
Sorry for resurrecting the thread but I just wanted to say thanks to you two! We're watching Inside Number 9 and I said to DH 'that's Dr Foster' and a whole discussion ensued, ending with him telling me that they look nothing alike. Whereas as far as I'm concerned, they're actually the same person.

Bookfour · 22/01/2019 18:20

I am a fan both and don't get them confused

Greensleeves · 22/01/2019 18:23

Am currently watching her series of Line of Duty and I find her very wooden and unconvincing. She's like an even less talented version of Anna Friel

Weirdly I liked her in Tipping the Velvet, but she's been crap in everything I've seen since

MsTSwift · 22/01/2019 18:26

I saw her in a shoe shop years ago she was stunning as I recognised her I thought she was a friend of my sisters thankfully realised she wasn’t before I said hello and launched an Excruciatingly Encounter

Jitters22 · 22/01/2019 18:29

I think Olivia Colman is the same in everything she does personally.

I went to see The Favourite at the cinema - I enjoyed it but I don't get all the best actress nominations (and Golden Globe win) because it's just Olivia Colman, same as she always is, but in a costume.

Likewise Suranne Jones, likewise Nicola Walker (already mentioned) - you see them once and you see them again - the names have changed, the plot has changed, but their performance hasn't.

Beeziekn33ze · 22/01/2019 18:30

Time we had something new with Sarah Lancashire, is there another Happy Valley on the way?

Greensleeves · 22/01/2019 18:33

Jitters I think I'm in the process of going off Olivia Colman, for the same reasons Sad

TheWernethWife · 22/01/2019 18:35

Can't stand Gina McKee, stiff faced and only one expression. Been the same in every film/programme she's been in. Love Nicola Walker, brilliant in The Split.

Badbadbunny · 22/01/2019 18:35

It's the way the BBC operate in all areas. Kids programs, newsreaders, comedians, etc, then newsreaders doing entertainment shows etc. They do like to "keep it in house". You just don't see the same with the other channels who have a far greater range of talent.

MrWolfknowsthetime · 22/01/2019 18:41

She was awesome in Spooks. I think that’s where she met her DH. I have a bit of a crush on them both.

Jitters22 · 22/01/2019 18:54

Has anyone seen Glenn Close in The Wife?

Absolutely breath-taking performance and when you think back on all the parts she's played over the years, her sheer versatility and the way she just 'becomes' each character, you can see exactly why she deserves the Oscar for this role. When I watch her I don't see the cogs turning like I do with some actresses. She 'is' the part she's playing and she plays an absolute blinder in this! Probably her best.

If you haven't seen it, it's coming on out DVD at the end of the month.

Bookfour · 23/01/2019 22:08

I liked Gina McKee in the Borgias, but not so much in the bodyguard
