Persuasive argument for hormone treatment.

I put a thread up before about trouble with weight loss and PCOS, I lose an average of 1 lb every two weeks on a very low calorie diet and nothing on a higher calorie diet.

I have booked an appointment with my DR but I’m really worried they are going to just say keep going with the diet and eventually it get better.

What I really want is to try and sort my hormones which will hopefully help speed the weight loss a bit but will help with the acne/excess hair growth etc.

I’m hoping the DR might put me on a hormone tablet of some sort (I can’t really go on the pill as I only have one maybe two cycles a year)

What could I say to the DR to stop myself being a pushover?
Could anyone give me a persuasive argument I can parrot fashion off to the Doctor as to why I should go on some sort of hormone treatment?

I’m pretty desperate especially as I feel so angry and anxious all the time but am also pretty pathetic and will likely go along with whatever the DR says without fighting my corner.

I’ve been like this for years, the symptoms are getting worse over time and I’ve honestly had a gut full of it all. I need to loose weight I know but at 1lb every other week I’m going to absolutely lose the will to live.

Hi Bobbybear,

Why does only have one or two cycles a year mean you can't be on the pill? I have pcos and am on the pill. I only had about 3 or 4 cycles a year.

You mention you're on a low calorie diet. Pcos is really linked to insulin resistance so you should focus more on the type of food you're eating, although portion size is also important. Think low carb, limited dairy, limited meat, no processed food. Always eat fresh and healthy. Loads of vegetables.
I watch a YouTuber called Your Nutrition Cute. She has pcos and offers loads of great tips, including about supplements. Her videos usually focus on managing pcos symptoms.
You need to think more about tackling or fending off insulin resistance. That will help your hormones.
I find GPs often don't know much about pcos and I've never had any helpful advice from them. The best way I have found to manage hormones is through my diet and lifestyle. To help more with my skin I am prescribed retinoid cream and skinoren... maybe and your GP about how to manage acne with topical treatment?
I know it's so hard but lifestyle and diet will be the most effective way. Mind you, let me know if they do actually offer you something as I'd be curious to know if I could be helped more!

Look into metformin used for diabetes which treats the insulin resistance of Pcos and encourages weight loss
