To ask if this could be melanoma?

Just found it at the top of my shoulder. I check regularly-ish because of family history of skin cancers and cancer in general.

It wasn't there 6 weeks ago.

I have a GP appt tomorrow anyway to discuss other stuff so will raise it then anyway.

😬 but ffs... the Universe won't give me a break these past few years.

Or carcinoma... or whatever other 'oma' it may be

It looks like a freckle. I had a dodgy mole removed from my chest- it was much bigger and darker and clearer than yours. But I am no expert so def get it checked. It doesn’t look dodgy tho

Looks like nothing to me, take a picture of it and compare in a few weeks. I’m covered in odd moles and freckles 😄

Doesn't look like anything to be concerned about but measure it and check it again in a week or two in case it's grown / changed. Not sure I'd go to the Dr for this but I'd ask a pharmacist, have found them really helpful in the past with little curiosities like this. Hope it's nothing Smile

Melanomas or skin cancers are usually identified by:

The shape - does it have ragged edges or a weird shape (not round) - in this case it does appear that way
The colour - is it more than one colour - No
Itchiness/bleeding/scaly - it doesn't look irritated
Change - has it changed significantly - it is too new to determine this
Size - more than 5mm - this looks very small

Any new mole or skin lesion that comes up after the age of 30 should be checked out, just in case. But this looks unremarkable to me.

There are apps you can use on your phone to keep any eye on moles (changing moles that grow larger are a big factor). You take a photo of the mole and the app assesses it. Then you take further photos every month or two to see if it changes. This might give you peace of mind in the meantime.

A family history is worth disclosing to your doctor and a visit to a dermatologist to check your overall skin health could be a good idea if you are worried.

I'm not a doctor BTW - just someone with multiple moles (hundreds) and a family history. I have to keep a very close eye on my skin.

Go see a doctor. A 5 minute check is all it takes. If is it something serious then the earlier it's treated the better.

What did it turn out to be? I have something that looks very similar. I've had it for a couple of years already.
