I was working from home today and a delivery man came to the door with a parcel for next door. I was a bit reluctant to take it as I’m going out later and am unlikely to be in when she gets back.

He showed me the delivery slip and neighbour had instructed them to leave it with me if they weren’t in! Neighbour hasn’t been there long and I don’t know her at all; the guy agreed it was a bit cheeky of her to give my address without asking or mentioning it to me. Especially as she obviously has no idea if I’ll even be in, I’m normally out at work during the week as is DH! WIBU to have a gentle word when she comes to collect it?

Errrm, happened to me with one set of new neighbours, they put my delivery address on their order. I did not even know them but maybe they realised I work from home. I heard a knock but was in the middle of a business call and did not come to the door. Then when I checked, there was a parcel leaning against my door. I saw my address on it and ripped it open. There was some nice wine in it. I later opened the bottle and drunk it. I just assumed that perhaps a client had sent it. It's only later when I checked who sent it, I found a slip inside with a different recipient name. Tough! I saw these neighbours a couple of days later and they asked had I taken in a package for them. I truthfully answered that I had not signed for anything and never do. Really lovely wine though...

temptress that made me chuckle Grin

I would refuse it but to be honest by the time I realise it's not for me they've already gone! With my house number on the delivery driver never mentions my neighbour and I order things regularly enough to not question deliveries.

Temptress
They actually put your address as the delivety address, not an alternative? Isn't it technically a gift then?

raindancemumma · 06/12/2018 17:47

My CF neighbour even put my name on the 'notes for delivery' without asking if I'm happy to take in any parcels. Said neighbour is a fecking fruit loop, so I just find it easier to accept the packages than have to have a barney about it....

Gosh we must be the minority where I live! My neighbours have never asked me if parcels can be left at mine..I'm in most of the time being a full time mum. I don't mind at all holding onto their parcels until they finish work

flumpybear · 06/12/2018 17:58

Mine do take parcels in but I'd never write for them to! I always direct them to the side porch but sometimes they need a sig

Visions of you biting flowers!

I'd be miffed if someone put my address without checking with me. I work from home a lot so some neighbours will knock and say they've a parcel coming on, say, Thursday and I can take it in. They can get huffy if it's one of the days I'm in the office. Or on a call so can't answer the door.

Won't take them ever for one crazy neighbour. She studiously ignored me when I took a parcel round for her, refused to collect it and then claimed to the company that I wouldn't give it to her. Unfortunately for her, I'd already called the courier to take it off my hands.

I live in a cul-de-sac and work from home, whilst most of my neighbours are out at work all day.
All of the delivery drivers have twigged that I am usually around so I get numerous parcels delivered each day. I usually answer the door because it might be for me and I do feel sorry for the drivers, I know they don't get paid much.
My current highest tally is 18 parcels in one day! I am hoping for a few gifts from the neighbours at Christmas or I might start refusing.

MinesaBottle · 07/12/2018 10:21

Well she came round this morning as I was leaving for work! I explained I’m not usually in during the day and while I’m happy to take in parcels if I am in, it’d be best not to give my address as an alternative. She seemed very understanding about it and apologized so no harm done - hopefully she took it on board!
