If you took this prescription to a pharmacy, would you expect to have to pay for one item or two separate items?

I think two. Might be cheaper to buy otc unless you get free prescriptions

Livinglavidal0ca · 06/12/2018 10:51

I work in pharmacy, we'd charge you £8.80. its just one item!

MrsMaryMooFace · 06/12/2018 10:51

It says 1 pack so one payment? Is it a Canesten equivalent? If so they come as a pack too.

dementedpixie · 06/12/2018 10:51

Do they not come as a pack with both items in it? I would say one

PsychologicalSaline · 06/12/2018 10:52

I think it's probably a two charge item and agree it might be cheaper purchasing yourself if you can get the same strength over the counter.

PsychologicalSaline · 06/12/2018 10:53

Even though it is in one pack it might be a double charge as some HRT preparations are one item but the are made up of two drugs so the charge is double the normal prescription charge.

When I gave the prescription in they charged me £8.80 and told me to come back in 20 mins. When I returned, they told me they’d refund me because it’s cheaper to buy it otc. Ok great, got the refund and was then asked for £13?! Apparently the lady that took my payment didn’t know it was two separate items (despite it being one box containing the items Hmm) so otherwise I’d be paying £17.60. I wasn’t sure whether this was correct but a huge queue had built up and everyone was watching me trying to argue this whilst a big box of canesten was on the counter Blush I felt a bit embarrassed so just agreed to it, but now I feel quite annoyed about it!

Although they come in the same box the pessary and cream count as seperate items so 2 charges, this why some hrt is 2 charges as there are 2 different tablets in the box. On the other hand if the dr prescribes 2 different strengths of the same medication so long they are the same form(ie both tablets or both capsules) it's one charge, if one's a tablet and one 's a capsule it's 2 charges! A pair of support stockings is 2 charges! It's all very confusing for patients.
