My DH is a roadworker. He doesn't do the 'big' jobs like digging up roads and re-laying them, he does things like driving round the county to fill potholes or fix broken manholes etc. His lorry is on a tracker so his higher ups can see where he is, where he's been etc. They've now decided that employees have to justify any movement that isn't work, and you can't use the same excuse twice. So if you needed the loo at 10am today and had to drive to find one, you have to explain yourself to the boss and you're not 'allowed' to need the loo at 10am tomorrow otherwise you get a talking to. Once he's finished his last job of the day, he has to stay on the site of that last job which can be anywhere, parked up in really inconvenient places (unless it's somewhere dangerous like on a dual carriageway, then he has to go and sit at the closest 'safe' spot) until it's time to head back to the depot.
I understand that they don't want employees buggering off and wasting fuel by doing whatever they want after the job has been finished, but quite often they'll only give DH a couple of jobs to do which he'll have finished by lunchtime so they expect him to sit onsite and do nothing until he's allowed back at the depot at 3.40pm. Surely there should be some leniency?
Can they do that? It seems a bit too controlling and it just doesn't sit right with me. He had a job interview yesterday and we're both praying he gets it so hopefully this won't affect him for much longer!
