AIBU to never order from Birchbox again?

I ordered two November boxes to test out Birchbox. I was interested in buying my DD a subscription for Christmas. They were on special Black Friday offer. I ordered their November Nutcracker box plus an extra surprise box on November 20th. They took the money, I received an e mail saying it had been dispatched and would be received in 3-5 days. They included a tracking number which gives me no information when clicked on.
Then I received another e mail saying they'd been overwhelmed by orders so there could be a delay. Some people received their orders. Others didn't. Others have received boxes but not the type they ordered. I imagine they have sold out of the nutcracker box now.

It's now been 15 days. I have had nothing. The tracking details haven't been updated and my two e mails and one social media post have been ignored.
It's such bad customer service! I wonder why they continued to take orders they couldn't fulfill!

If you paid using a credit card or PayPal, you can open a dispute and get them to sort it out with Birchbox. Getting a chargeback seems to concentrate naughty merchants' minds better than any number of customers' emails.

They had a massive push on them on brand alley as well but they are not due to arrive until 20th December so wonder if the nutcracker ones will be siphoned off from that stock. The deal there was 5 boxes for £12.50.

I received mine on Saturday after getting 3 messages saying it had been dispatched.

I'm very underwhelmed. I was thinking about changing from my pink parcel but really won't be bothering. I expect some sample products but they were really small. Really didn't get the Etsy link either.

A fair amount will be going into the Christmas tombola I think

Tattletale · 05/12/2018 20:37

I treated myself to their advent calendar this year and so far I am underwhelmed with the contents. Really hope it gets better!

pfwow · 05/12/2018 20:39

I only have had disappointment with birchbox, I wouldn't recommend them to anybody, so YANBU

Wellonlyifihaveto · 05/12/2018 20:41

Finally got mine today, terrible customer service! I got both boxes but they’ve had my money since black friday

Fishandthechips · 05/12/2018 20:42

Im not a huge fan of Birchbox. I was a subscriber for a few months last year and I cant remember one decent item I recieved in the boxes. Its either sample sizes so small they are rendered pointless or brands that nobody has heard of being past off as 'luxury'. seriously, who has really heard of Manna Kadar
If you look on their social media its just pages of people complaining about how bad their lack of customer service is or how crap the products are. I wouldnt subscribe with them again!
I love Glossybox though! Beautifully presented and I always get at least one great thing per box that makes it worth while. Its worth looking into if your still after a subscription box.

They finally responded to my messages and said something went wrong with their delivery but I can't have replacement boxes. So annoying.

olivertwistwantsmore · 13/12/2018 11:42

I bought the 'four boxes for £10' deal on BrandAlley. The boxes arrived this week (though they said they'd arrive on 20 Dec) and are fab: four different ones from July-October this year. An absolute bargain at £2.50 each...

My 14yo is very impressed too.

Am going to give them as gifts but am tempted to keep one for me!!

olivertwistwantsmore · 13/12/2018 11:43

Sorry to hear that so many people have had a bad experience with them. Sounds like the demand was too high and they couldn't cope.

Beaverhausen · 13/12/2018 11:47

I subscribed was not impressed so switched to glossybox and got their advent calender, definitely not disappointed.

MotorcycleMayhem · 13/12/2018 11:50

Birchbox are rubbish. The products were crap, I had one box of make up that smelt stale and had face cream that smelt like old lady perfume (you know the scent). I now have Glossybox and I'm really enjoying it. Much more efficient, better presented and the products are far better value.

Hidillyho · 13/12/2018 11:50

Birtchbox never has good ratings.
Glossybox is better but still can be pretty crappy - I got hair stuff for curly hair when I have straight hair and continuously have dry shampoo etc. Sometimes they do come with something that I really love - there was a primer in there which I absolutely love.
I would definitely stay away from birtchbox though

nancybelle · 14/12/2018 07:13

I got the 5 for £12.50 from brand alley and was impressed but wouldn’t pay £10 a box. I got one duplicate box but was generally happy with it.

Satsumaeater · 14/12/2018 07:56

I've never used Birchbox but did subscribe to Glossy box for a while and wasn't that impressed although there is the odd nice product in there. I've just had a 3 month subscription to a Love Lula box and wasn't that impressed with that either to start with, but this month's box had a nice shower gel and two Christmassy nail varnishes so quite decent and worth the money. I think Love Lula is the best of them, although with Latest in Beauty you can see what you are getting first and some of their boxes are great value.

Just out of interest did anyone have the black charcoal sponge from the other month? And if so do you know if you can buy the full version? I can’t get onto the site for some reason and I love it! Mines gone and it cleared my skin up so much, now I’m breaking back out, just in time for Christmas Confused (suffer because of medication and tried so many over the counter that haven’t worked).

nancybelle · 15/12/2018 10:02

Loubluee, you can buy it. Here is the link to the product. I saw some on eBay too dailyconcepts.com/products/multi-functional-soap-sponge-charcoal

I have used it a few times and am really liking it.

Trills · 15/12/2018 10:33

I got two for £10 or so.
They are about as I would expect.
The official December box as you can see on their site right now, and a random one from earlier in the year - it was not said explicitly that it was "getting rid of old boxes" but I thought it was not too surprising.
A mix of tiny things and bigger things.
