So basically we live dead close 2 a shop and my partner will nip around there more evenings than not picking up milk etc My problem is...he never asks or looks what else we need and its driving me mad!

The other day i took my little un to school and came back home in the pouring rain....so i make a brew...change into pj pants cos my jeans are soaked thru... everything goes off, leccy run out! My other half cant understand why i would be irritated by this! He'd been to the shop the night before i dont understand whats so hard about just checking to see if theres owt else needed before he goes!

Not smallest error though pinky. Errors are errors. Txt spk is lazy and irritating.

Pinkyyy · 05/12/2018 11:23

Maybe to you it is, in fact I don't personally enjoy it either, but people are free to talk as they please and it bugs me when people make a huge deal out of the way things are written instead of just addressing what the thread is about.

slashlover · 05/12/2018 11:26

Could you not have used the emergency and then got a top up later?

T2705 · 05/12/2018 11:27

I can understand how frustrating this is! My ex used to go out sometimes to the shop, sometimes to meet his friend without even saying he was going! He'd just leave the house sometimes for 10 minutes, others for an hour or so. I used to find it so incredibly arrogant and rude, it used to really offend me that he thought so little of me that he would just walk out without saying bye or anything, and was even more annoying if he had actually been to the shop and we needed something, it was one of (the many) reasons we aren't together any more!

He was so shocked that I had such a problem with it he really never saw an issue with it, which I suppose is why he still did it even when he knew how much it pissed me off!

KTMP16 · 05/12/2018 11:29

The person going to the shop should see whats needed from the shop!!
I wasnt thinking "do i need anything from the shop" because i wasnt going to the shop lol Obviously I didnt know it was running so low and we needed it or yes I would have taken the card & money with me in the morning on the schoolrun and done it on my way home!

Keep a sticky note on the fridge and if either of you see something running out then write it on the note. Whoever goes to the shop first has a list.

LucyMorningStar · 05/12/2018 11:31

Re text speak and such - don't underestimate how much your written language affects the 'first impressions' so to speak. You may think it's just an online forum but people will still form their opinion of you instantly based on the way you write and it will change their perception of the problem you are sharing and they will adjust their advice accordingly.

It's like leaving your house in your scruffs vs leaving dressed decently. It does make a difference, whether you want it or not.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 05/12/2018 11:31

My husband always asks if I need anything when he goes to the shop, and I do the same. It's common sense, surely?

ThePencil · 05/12/2018 11:32

This would drive me up the wall! Whoever is going to the shop should at least check the basics - bread, milk, margarine, cheese in our house - and ask the other person whether there's anything they need.

itsfuckingnotducking · 05/12/2018 11:34

Yabu to use the word leccy.

jellycat1 · 05/12/2018 11:37

As you live that close to the shop it's right down there with non-est of non issues. So yabu.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/12/2018 11:38

Just communicate with each other a bit more?

MrDonut · 05/12/2018 11:45

My Ex was the opposite. I'd say, "I'm just going to the shop. Do you want anything?", and he'd say no. Then, about 10 minutes after I got home, he'd ask if I got beer. It was so annoying! I suppose I should have known he was running low on beer, but I was usually just thinking about dinner and tomorrow's breakfast.

Wow! Im new here and didnt expect this backlash over spelling and that it would become an issue.
I understand about first impressions - what does it say about someone who will jump onto a thread and comment about two or
three shortened words? In my opinion, that shows someone petty!
If the initial message was littered with mistakes and the type of language used in my other post then i would understand people getting annoyed - but this is quite juvenile i feel.

How about we all move along now safe in the knowledge you've taught a new member a valuable lesson that proper spelling is required in this forum.

ThePencil & dontdribble Thanks! Glad some people can see where im coming from with this

I agree with you OP. We also live super-close to the shop, and if one of us is just popping out because we need milk, say, we always ask whether anything else is needed. Why waste time running backwards and forwards when 30 seconds of asking/answering a question could sort it out?

Arkansrazer · 05/12/2018 12:20

Yep - but its fun to read the pedantry - even makes you want to make a mistake just to get the responses and have a giggle

LucyMorningStar · 05/12/2018 12:25

I was just trying to explain why people get their knickers in a twist over spelling and writing style. I'm in no position to judge, English is my third language so half of what I write is grammatically incorrect Grin

VictoryOrValhalla · 05/12/2018 12:31

It’s not mistakes. Mistakes are fair enough. We all make mistakes. Txt speak is deliberate.

Pinkyyy · 05/12/2018 12:40

Judging someone on the way they write and assuming it's to do with class is actually quite poor though, surely? So two people have the same problem but you'd advise them differently purely on their grammar? You don't even know them, many people on here have different first languages

BlancheM · 05/12/2018 12:45

OP don't take it to heart. There is always one or two clever fuckers tripping over themselves to correct people thinking it makes themselves look witty when all it does it highlight how thick they are because they can't grasp the concept of people leading different lives to them nor take into consideration regional differences. It's so tedious.

SpoonBlender · 05/12/2018 13:45

KTMP can you get your meters swapped out for non-pay ones? PAYG cost about a third more (last time I had to use them) so it's totally worth the ten minutes of effort to ring up the gas/electric co and get it booked.

We've got shops within two minutes walk as well, but it's still an eyeroller when DP doesn't do the thing. For both of us... we're both a bit dippy.
