To think these antibiotics should clear everything up? Not just certain bits?

So... had a total hysterectomy 22.11 and keyhole wounds (one is particularly bad, the other three are trying their best to catch up) started with signs of infection 01.12 (Increasing redness, pus, pain/tenderness)

Went to OOHs GP who gave me flucloxacillin. Fine. Not cured yet but getting better.

Today same gungy pinky pus that is coming from my worst infected incision has started coming out of my vagina 🤢... it's only a bit, a few drops, reminds me of the last period wipe, just a smear of it really. However since the day of the surgery I have had NO vaginal bleeding whatsoever until today, and as far as I am aware the top of my vagina has been sutured.

So the question is.... is this infection spreading to all my surgery sites? Will the flucloxacillin clear this up at the same time or do I need to go back to GP? Is this something different? Do I need a swab? 😱

Yes, that was four questions.

Yes, the top of your vagina will have been sutured. This new discharge could be a different bug that needs a specific a/b so worth consulting your GP imo.

I suppose so, was really hoping for this to be a smooth recovery!! Not looking forward to being poked and prodded again!

Alexa do u work in the medical field? Any idea what could have caused this infection? 😪

I'd drop a urine sample into your GP, OP, so they can swab it and send it off to see the culture. That way it can be determined what the correct antibiotic is for the infection. Also request a blood test.
It could be that it isn't the correct antibiotic for the bacteria strain or it could just be that the dose needs to be higher. I'd be seeing a GP asap for advice as it's quite a big op and infection can get worse quickly if unattended to. You could also ring 111 if you're concerned or it worsens, particularly if you're running a fever.
Hoping you feel better soon OP!

Urine does not come from the vagina and is therefore a useless sample for a possible vaginal infection. Either go back to the GP or give them a call and tell them. You may need different antibiotics or your surgical team to take a look. Deeper infection is not likely to involve the same bacteria as skin infection and flucloxacillin won’t work.

Mrwolf I've been thinking about a deeper infection than just skin as my other surgical wounds are now slowly but surely becoming infected/sore (when I went to OOHs dr there was only one infected) and now this 😞😞

I hope is not tissue/ muscle related.

Alas, I will need to go back. Humph.

Yes, you do need to go back. Randoms on the internet can’t sort this for you.

All the best.

yes, obviously urine does not come from the vagina. People quite often not able to determine where blood has come from if they notice it when they wipe and the OP did not state whether it was 'wiping' after passing water or not. The suggestion of a urine culture was in case there is a UTI involved in this instance, and as a complimentary measure to a blood test to check the ESR and CRP levels, both of which are fairly standard measures. UTI after any abdominal surgery is extremely common, however the OP obviously needs to just get to the doctor asap and have them give it all a good check and get on the correct antibiotics.
