To think Louis Theroux needs to branch out a little in facial expressions

I love —binge— watching his documentaries and quite like him, but the Paddington bear stare thing in conversation is a little wearing. I’d be so cross if I was emotively talking or opening up to such a flat response!

I’ve got his documentaries open on iPlayer and I feel like shouting ‘crack a smile’. I’m turning into my grandad??? It’s like a formula
-stare into lens
-raise eyebrows a bit
-relax jaw

Lobe Louis, his silence and stare makes people talk and feel the gap. Did you see the one about adoption? Was so interesting

Cranky17 · 04/12/2018 22:11

And the one about the hospital in LA?

Jezzifishie · 04/12/2018 22:12

Aww, that's why I love Louis! People end up saying more, because he's not responding the way they expect.

TwoBoysTooMany76 · 04/12/2018 22:13

I think there is a method in his -madness- flatness. He has realised that if you keep a flat expression with a slight raised eyebrow but not talking, it tends to unnerve people and make them talk more to cover up the slight unease/quietness... Have you seen the Scientology movie? I was full of admiration the way he stood up calmly to some frankly very alarming scary people! I would have shat myself. Shock Blush

mirren3 · 04/12/2018 22:14

He was interviewed by Russell Howard last week and was really interesting. He can remember most of the people he's interviewed and met and keeps on touch with some.
He was really down to earth and interviewed well.
I may have a small crush on My Louis.

Butchyrestingface · 04/12/2018 22:14

I would have drunk his bathwater back in my misspent youth. WTF was I thinking??

Cranky17 · 04/12/2018 22:15

mirren3 you’re not alone there Smile

Terfing · 04/12/2018 22:16

I always felt a bit bad after the way he was treated during the Jimmy Saville expose. He was one of the only people that spoke up at the time, but he was punished for it!

mirren3 · 04/12/2018 22:18

@Cranky17 just remember I staked my claim first!

incallthebloodytime · 04/12/2018 22:19

Crush here too

Dooley is doing well but reveals her own emotions too much in the face to match him yet but she might be cool with that and not want us to wonder if she's human

GhostSauce · 04/12/2018 22:29

I would.

KeepTheBloodyNoiseDown · 05/12/2018 00:19

I think it works really well, it makes people ramble and that’s often when people go ‘off script’.
I would also like to stake a claim, he’s one of those people who’s really improved with age.

stopgap · 05/12/2018 01:09

Louis can do no wrong. twirly swoon

Voodoocowgirl · 05/12/2018 01:50

Louis Theroux is perfection. That is all.

PhaedrasChocolate · 05/12/2018 02:02

Oooh I couldn't fancy him! He's a brilliant journalist though, I love his stuff.

user764329056 · 05/12/2018 02:30

He’s so good at what he does, plays the nerdy geeky interviewer but is so intelligent and knows just how to pitch his questions and pauses, love him, seems beautifully humble too

Juanbablo · 05/12/2018 09:47

I love Louis Theroux. I think he's fabulous. That quiet stare makes people open up. He asks questions everyone wants to ask but wouldn't.

Patroclus · 05/12/2018 10:40

Its a technique somebody taught me to unnerve british people. They cant handle silence in a conversation so keep on talking and revealing. I tried it when my doctor was being extremely rude and all daily mail once.
