... and that women who continue to wear them are perpetuating the notion, albeit mostly subliminally, of a man’s entitlement to easy and unimpeded “access” to women.

Any male who beats, assaults or rapes a woman is not a real man

True, but you dug up an 8 year old grave to say this 😳.

AFAIK Western Women have worn skirt, dress type clothes since classic times. What has happened is they have become shorter, this happened notably in the 1920's when women became more socially and financially emancipated after WW1. The length of skirt has varied a great deal since then mini to maxi and everything in-between. Men are hardwired to assess women's bodies ( as are women with men, only usually not so blatantly) so men will look at women regardless of what they wear. For instance up until the 1920s a glimpse of a women's ankle from under her long skirt was enough to send men into paroxysms of lust! Trousers, leggings can also not leave much to the imagination. However women should dress as they please and men should objectify quietly and discreetly 😁

I thought it was offensive/'not done' to refer to a kilt as a skirt?

I wear tailored coats to Tesco. I've also worn a full wedding outfit (guest outfit, not bridal!), fancy dress and scummy, paint covered stage blacks to Tesco - it just depends on what I'm on my way to or from when I pass there. I'd never make a trip out specifically to go to a supermarket, it's always combined with something else.

I love skirts and dresses and wear them most days. Don't think it's misogynistic at all. I think we're lucky to have more fashion choices than men.

Kilts are a Victorian invention mostly worn at weddings and by tour guide operators. But you are right you wouldn't refer to it as a 'skirt'.

Very true however the crimes of assault on women has not diminished in that time, l personally believe it has increased 😞 😢
