"See this majestic unicorn magically poop slime" (smyths toys)

This "majestic" little unicorn/baby/stripper/poop machine is £50

AIBU to be horrified that this is the sort of thing my daughter will want to play with when she's older?

You’re ‘horrified?’ It’s just a toy ffs.

AssassinatedBeauty · 04/12/2018 07:01

You're DD isn't going to magically want to play with it, you can't possibly predict that. It's hideous of course, and £50 for a load of plastic is not everyone's idea of a great toy. But some children might love it, others won't.

Its just a slime mixing kit! Thats all.

Would you be as similarly horrified by donald duck and call him a stripper because he has no pants?!

Slime is called unicorn poop by a number of companiee. All this is is playing on that.

Although that said the slime made isnt partically great past the first play. And you have to wait 10-15 minutes for it to set up. So you'd probably be better buying some pva and some cintact solution/elmers magic solution and glitter and food dye and get the same results if not better.

DD has asked for one for Xmas. Simple answer of 'No' has sorted that! But I do kind of agree, not quite horrified, but disappointed that is the sort of thing being peddled.

Returnofthesmileybar · 04/12/2018 07:11

Well it might not be the type of thing your dd even wants to play with though. My DD(5) saw it on TV and did a dramatic ew that's yuck, it's on her best friends Santa list though so each to their own. Dd will either be still grossed by it in January or think it's the best thing since sliced pan and ask me for it every month until her birthday by which time they'll be half the price because they are utter shit and Christmas will be a distant memory

ShatnersBassoon · 04/12/2018 07:14

Kids love poo, slimy things and gewgaws - this ticks a lot of boxes.

SmartPriceHam · 04/12/2018 07:20

I think it's bloody weird and looks creepy.

Stormwhale · 04/12/2018 07:28

My dd is 5, so prime age for this kind of crap. She has seen the adverts, been sucked in, and asked for it. I have looked up about it, seen the reviews saying it is overpriced crap and I have explained that to her. She understands and has said she doesn't want it any more.

If after a conversation like that she is still insistent that she wants it, then I will tell her it needs to come from her piggy bank then. It is then up to her if she wants to take the risk with her own money. She is a clever little thing and is careful with her money. Usually she will think about it and look at how much money she has and how much the crap toy will use up and decide.

We don't go on a big spending spree with her birthday money or any she is given, so it's always there in her piggy bank for situation like this. I think it helps teach her the value of money.

@Stormwhale that's great, your daughter sounds very mature for her age Smile

I hope that reassures you that you won't have to turn into a parent you don't want to be, giving your child everything they want, no matter how rubbish it is. By the age that they start to notice these things, they are perfectly capable of having a conversation about it. If they aren't used to you giving in to everything they want, it doesn't end up in a mega tantrum.

Just this morning dd has asked for a barbie set that is £35 pounds for the second time. The toy is perfectly nice and I think she would play with it, but we have recently paid out for lots of new clothes as she has grown, have already bought all the Christmas presents and there just isn't £35 spare for a toy at the moment. I gave her the option of paying for it herself or waiting until we have more spare cash. She has gone away, thought about it and decided she would like to buy it herself. No tantrums necessary, and I think she understands a bit better that we aren't a bottomless pit of money.

QuietContraryMary · 18/12/2018 17:37

Me & DD watched it on youtube, she pronounced it rubbish, as

(a) it doesn't actually poop slime, you have to mix the slime AFTER it has been pooped, which is just shit really.
(b) the slime isn't slimy enough
(c) you get a few tiny sachets of slime for your £50, so it's useless after that or you have to buy some overpriced refill pack
(d) it uses 'surprise' marketing as you can't pick the character you want, they want people to buy multiple copies of this at £50 each to actually get the doll of their choice.

MakeAHouseAHome · 18/12/2018 17:47

Jeez is that the shit kids have as toys these days!? No way...

If I ever have any they will be getting Lego/Julip/Duplo/Cuddly Toys/Train Sets etc. Not that shit!
