Is it weird that I want to buy my son a buggy?

For him to push his toys in? He loves pushing his own buggy so I'm thinking of buying him one for Christmas! My husband seems to think it is strange as it is only for girls! I don't have a problem with it though?

Buy him a buggy. Does your husband push your DS's pram? He just wants to copy his dad....

autumnboys · 03/12/2018 23:26

No, we had one for our boys. They had toy slings to carry babies in too.

autumnboys · 03/12/2018 23:26

Toy babies, that is, not actual babies.

LovesLaboursLost · 03/12/2018 23:27

My DS has one when he was a toddler. They like to role play what they see their parents doing.

AssassinatedBeauty · 03/12/2018 23:27

Of course it's not only for girls, unless you really think that men never ever push a buggy? Does your husband think that men don't ever care for babies and push buggies?

Muddlingalongalone · 03/12/2018 23:27

Not weird at all. Toddler groups & nurseries are full of boys doing this - trying to find a non pink pram may be more of a challenge!

Yesitwasmethistime · 03/12/2018 23:27

Not weird, DS2 had a blue one and loved it. He had s boy doll he pushed round in it.

Neolara · 03/12/2018 23:28

Buy him a buggy. Why on earth wouldn't you?

AtrociousCircumstance · 03/12/2018 23:28

Yes buy him one. DS had one, enjoyed it. Also with baby toy.

Your H is being an idiot.

Here is a blue one if DH is worried about it being girly.

Drogosnextwife · 03/12/2018 23:29

I bought my ds a buggy. I'm a childminder and trust me little boys love buggies!

GinLimeandLemonade · 03/12/2018 23:31

My son's got a bright pink pushchair for his dolls/teddies/cars Grin And one of my old handbags on the back of it for his wallet, keys and play phone! They learn through play, and play what they know. Nothing weird about it at all Smile

CocoLoco87 · 03/12/2018 23:39

We've bought DS the blue John Lewis one for Christmas this year! He's 2 and there's a place we go with a pink one and he always loves pushing it round. I was struggling with ideas for him but the buggy will go down a treat! We've bought a couple of stuffed toys of his favourite animal to go in it too. I cant wait to see his face in Christmas day!

Stompythedinosaur · 03/12/2018 23:40

It is normal! Does your dh not think men should play a role in caring for dc?

Buggys are a universal toy.

CheekyFuckerStory · 03/12/2018 23:43

My daughters had a buggy- the boys they played with would always commandeer it. Wish the boys parents had bought a buggy, then mine would have been able to play with their own toys more often.

CryingMessFFS · 03/12/2018 23:43

They’re not just for girls, buy him a buggy! I have a boy and girl, under 2yr age gap and they both love prams, dolls, Lego, cars, tools, barbies etc. Pisses me off when family members say ‘isn’t that a girls toy?’ to my DS, it’s a toy FFS just let them be kids and play with whatever makes them happy

TightPants · 03/12/2018 23:43

I bought one for DS when he was little - and a ‘baby’ he could push around in it. He loved it.

I really can’t understand why some men get twitchy about this, unless they’re some sort of Neanderthal that’s never pushed a pram themselves Hmm

alibongo5 · 03/12/2018 23:44

OMG I bought my son a pram nearly thirty years ago and no one at all commented on it then! Why would it not be a suitable toy?

EggplantsForever · 03/12/2018 23:45

This is so weird! Doesn’t your husband push a buggy sometimes?
My son had a buggy. And also dolls.

RagingWhoreBag · 03/12/2018 23:46

Not weird at all. DS1 had a buggy and a baby which he used to run over with his racing car

Is your DH generally so sexist?

footphobic · 03/12/2018 23:48

When I had my b/g twins I already had a dcs and a dd, so lots of different toys in the house, nothing was considered ‘gendered’, they could just choose whatever they liked. They all loved dress-up and role play, so would all play with anything role play related. Mine had a little buggy each.

When the twins would play the two of them, it might be with dinosaurs or cars, or dolls, sometimes playing house or hairdressing, my twin ds would sometimes put his sisters dresses on, he definitely would wear bright pink Disney princess shoes. 😀

All totally normal play that they enjoyed. It would be a real shame and serve no purpose to deny your ds a toy he would love. Please get him one.

TheSmallAssassin · 03/12/2018 23:49

My son's present from his new baby sister was a buggy (he made a beeline for a friend's one when we visited, so I knew he'd like it). My husband was a bit funny at first, but I pointed out that whenever we went out as a family he was always the one who pushed the pushchair, so it was silly to think it was an odd thing for a boy!

one2three4five · 03/12/2018 23:50

I really hope that men can push buggies, otherwise we'll be in trouble in May when my husband takes a year off work with our newborn.

Our DS had two toy buggies when he was a toddler. He loved them. Why wouldn't he?!

VimFuego101 · 03/12/2018 23:51

Of course it's not weird. Kids just like to emulate what they see grown ups doing.

Iloveautumnleaves · 03/12/2018 23:53

Tell him 1950 has sent a recall notice.

Idiot.

It’s only weird that you think he might have a point.
