AIBU to hate this menopausal period of my life?

Am feeling so emotionally traumatised by this wretched menopause. I have no self confidence, and a shadow of the person I once was, have no self worth and daily life feels like an up hill struggle.

I'm constantly shattered as my sleeping pattern is erratic, making me even more grumpy. I feel headachy most days and generally off colour.
Can anyone suggest any effective natural remedies, I just want my old self back!

I'm dreading it. Sorry you're having such a rubbish time. Chin up poppet. Xxxxx

I’m the same. I’ve been told to exercise but quite honestly my get up and go has gone. Hate it so much.

chockaholic72 · 03/12/2018 23:07

I hate it too - it's the only contributor to what has turned out to be a really shite year, to the point where I nearly got the sack and had to request a move from the job I loved to a different department.

I've tried a lot of natural stuff but had to admit defeat. GP gave me the hard stuff - HRT and Prozac. It's all really helping (even if I'm asking for a rinsing on here because people are so against anti depressants for the perimenopause). I would have lost my mind/job/house without it.

Go and see your GP - ask for a referral to a specialist if necessary. And good luck - I keep telling myself that it won't last forever and that in my next life I am coming back as a man.

I'm at the point of wondering if this is it, having not had a period since June and, tbh, the worst symptom is downright narky bowels. The hot flushes of the last few days of each cycle have gone. I've actually been huddling under a blanket, in the evenings.

seventhgonickname · 03/12/2018 23:18

I had hrt which gave me my life back but have had to come off following a scan so although it's ramping up again I'm hopefully looking at a hysterectomy then back on.
Apart from not sleeping, night sweats, hot flushes joint pain and non stop bleeding I'm doing OK.Im lucky in as much as I don't get too much mind fog if I get enough sleep.

KatyMac · 03/12/2018 23:20

I'm cautiously positive about mine while waiting for the other shoe to drop I had my ovaries out 7 weeks or so ago

The hot flushes 3-5 times a day and the insomnia (which is total shit) is outweight by no periods and greatly reduced IBS

If it gets dramatically worse I will be having HRT and quite possibly Proac like chockaholic as if it's broke it need fixing!

DamsonGin · 03/12/2018 23:23

I've had an awful day too but might actually go to the GP, half wrote off the day at work, I totally hit the wall by half nine.

KatyMac · 03/12/2018 23:28

Do see the GP; mine is being lovely and so supportive - she says she has done research and if/when I want HRT she thinks she knows what to start me on and then we will jiggle it over time until it's right

Thank you ladies I was feeling as tho no one else is going thru it, altho I know they must be! The world is full of 45-55 year olds, yet everyone seems to be just getting on with it except me! Clearly everyone is super good at hiding it all away!
I had some sleep last night, so at least this morning I feel i may be able to function! Will go to the GP I think to ask for the HRT which I had been considering as a last resort. I think I may be at the last resort right now!

Low dose hrt sorted me out almost instantly. Many of the old scares have now been debunked and if you are low risk for taking it then don’t consider it a defeat- why should we suffer so much at a time when life should, theoretically be easier?

picklemebaubles · 04/12/2018 09:54

Have you had everything tested? I was feeling rubbish, it turned out my iron and vitamin d were very low, and my thyroid under active.

It can be hard to tell what causes which symptoms! I'm falling apart one bit at a time. Brain fog, joint pain, tiredness and irregular sleep patterns... pah.

Plus the unending suspense of wondering if I'm about to have a period.

Lilyhatesjaz · 04/12/2018 13:05

I found that eating soya yogurt everyday helped a bit. I am almost out the other side now, things do get a lot better.

Alfie190 · 04/12/2018 13:18

I get some hot flushes and night sweats but fortunately have a ceiling fan in my bedroom that helps with that. Otherwise I am loving being period free and have no other symptoms. Menopause is great.

PeridotCricket · 04/12/2018 13:39

HRT - replacing that oestrogen - was the only thing that really helped. It might take a little time to find the right one for you, gel is sometimes better for some people....but it was an almost literal lifesaver for me. Certainly saved my marriage!
