AIBU to want a “LIKE” button for comments on posts?

Sometimes someone replies to a post using exactly the same words and sentiments and you wholeheartedly agree. Therefore wouldn’t it be amazing if you could just “like” 👍🏼 their comment?
I would love this feature, surely I can’t be the only one?

Haha yes! I've thought this a few times!!!

I feel like people would kick off that it would make everything too Facebook-y though. I don't care, still think it would be awesome!

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2018 20:32

This has been asked for before but MN's stance is that it's MN Talk for a reason, to have discussions.

It's not hard to type that you agree with someone.

Do you also want a 'dislike' button?

gamerchick · 03/12/2018 20:33

I'd rather have a quote button.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2018 20:36

I would rather have a [kitten] smiley.

stopinthenameoflove · 03/12/2018 20:42

Yes I agree and I'd like this post if I could Smile

missyB1 · 03/12/2018 20:44

It would save a lot of repetitive posts.

SparkleBuns · 03/12/2018 20:44

I'd like this or at least a quote button. I hate it when someone says "I agree with XYZ" and I always end up scrolling up for ages trying to find their comment

Sommelierrrr · 03/12/2018 21:00

Really bad idea. Lazy way of debating.

QwertyLou · 03/12/2018 21:07

I’m going against the grain here but I really would not want this. I like the way all comments (good and “less good”) are equal, and I agree it is a discussion.

I would live a “quote” function though! You can’t copy and paste on a phone.

VictoryOrValhalla · 03/12/2018 21:10

No. This isn’t facebook. If you add a like button you kill off discussion. People will “like” a post instead of actually engaging and saying why they like it, or adding their own comments.

Also, how long before people want a “dislike” button? This is MN, that would lead to carnage. Grin

VictoryOrValhalla · 03/12/2018 21:12

You can’t copy and paste on a phone.

You can on the mobile site. I just C&Pd your post Grin

Goldenbug · 03/12/2018 21:12

You can always do it "manually".

Goldenbug · 03/12/2018 21:13

Goldenbug said: You can always do it "manually".

I like this.

flugelhorn81 · 03/12/2018 21:13

Yes!! I was thinking just this yesterday

halfwitpicker · 03/12/2018 21:14

Yeah, I concur

gamerchick · 03/12/2018 21:17

You really can as above. But would love a quote button.

persianpeach · 03/12/2018 21:42

Yes you can do it manually but only if you can comment straight after the comment you like. It wouldn’t work further down the line.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 03/12/2018 21:44

YANBU - I was just thinking exactly the same thing yesterday.

There was a post I really agreed with and I didn't want to copy and paste and say I agree because it seemed pointless because I wasn't really adding anything.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2018 21:49

But clicking a Like button is adding even less. At least you can explain why you agree and have a conversation about it.

insideoutsider · 03/12/2018 21:57

I would like a 'like' button, a 'rubbish' button and an 'eye roll' smiley.
Thanks Mumsnet.

daffodilbrain · 03/12/2018 22:00

Yes I'd love a like button!

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2018 22:03

Isn't this Hmm the eyeroll smiley?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/12/2018 22:12

Every ones point is valid though.
Even if you might not agree
. I think a like/dislike button will just cause resentment. I'm.sorry but I am going to be honest I can picture it now the same posters getting likes and the same posters getting a thumbs down. We're not just names. We're real people. Someone could be having a really bad day. One of us could dislike their comment or They could be the only one on the thread who doesn't get a like and it could be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Sounds dramatic, I know.
An edit button would be good, though.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2018 22:19

A timed edit button would be good, otherwise everyone will start rewriting history.

theonlyKevin · 03/12/2018 22:21

At least you can explain why you agree and have a conversation about it.

you can, but if you only quote and write:
this or this exactly
you are not bringing anything to the discussion either. A like button would work just as well.
