To ask for your beauty tips to look less old and haggard..,

I’m 45 and suddenly ageing really really badly- I look like my face is falling off and have black rings under my eyes.
I try to get decent sleep, eat well, don’t really drink and don’t smoke - I think I am just worn out & a bit perimenopausal. I have good makeup too.

I know I can’t stop the passage of time but also I know there must be ways to look a bit less haggard and old.

Aibu to ask for your beauty tips- what can I do? Any specific treatments that help?

This will banish your bags and wrinkles under your eyes

Maelstrop · 03/12/2018 22:24

Hemorrhoid cream for under eye bags. Defined eyebrows but not those bonkers HD ones.

Cracking haircut, go nuts, chop it shorter. Maintain the colour.

worthygirl · 03/12/2018 22:28

No alcohol

Botox and subtle fillers are really wonderful.
Start off really light. Noone will notice as you can start off subtle. It's incredible. Really try it

Take your glasses off.

Works for me 😊

I am pretty sure failing eyesight is one of the things nature invented to get us through to old age without losing it! My DH sometimes says (after a few) that I am just as attractive as ever. Of course he also wears glasses, so all I need to do is hide them and buy him some booze for an instant boost to morale.

How do I know if a Botox place is reputable? That’s what bothers me- I don’t want a Frankenstein treatment!!!

Retinol, retinol, retinol. Over night.
Feels like I've turned back time on my face by 10-15 years after 1 year of use (I'm 46), same story with friends in their 60s and 70s!
Word of caution though: You really need to use spf 50 on face and neck all day every day, rain or shine, and reapply it a few times as well, when you start on the retinol - it makes your skin extra sensitive to sun damage. I like The Ordinary for retinol - very affordable - and La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Ultra Light Fluid SPF 50+ (and the spray for top ups). It takes a month or so for your skin to get used to the retinol so don't use it every night at the beginning (I have the world's most sensitive skin) and you want a night cream with ceramides as well. I know this sounds incredibly corny, but the way you feel about your appearance is reflected in how you feel about your life.

None of us get any better looking as we get older, it is more about feeling comfortable in your own skin. Maybe treat yourself to a flattering new outfit and a free makeover at a department store, which many will provide.

My daughter sometimes does my hair and make-up for me and it always looks so much better than I can manage myself. She has all the brushes and highlighters, whereas I have never bought a lot of make-up products. We really couldn't afford this sort of stuff when our kids were young.

Possibly someone else has already mentioned this, but regular exercise and trying something new also makes a great difference to some people. I have a bad hip and am older than you, no longer able to do much walking, taking up swimming has made a big difference to how I feel.

Don't worry about how you look in a bathing suit, believe me everyone has the same hang-ups at adult only sessions. Most of the swimmers are over 40 or much older at our pool.

Check the aesthetic practitioner has before and after photos of clients they have treated.

Check they have a medical background. Nurse, dentist, radiographer, pharmacist, doctor, physio e.t.c. their website should give you some info on where they trained in aesthetics.

Hope this helps
