A bitch? In front of the kids aswell. Still in shock and trying to process it.

OP posts:
CardsforKittens · 03/12/2018 21:31

It would depend who it was. If a stranger I'd probably laugh and insult him back. If my partner I'd be very angry and it would be the end of the relationship.

greendale17 · 03/12/2018 21:35

Depends on the context and if you were being a bitch.

^This

Merryoldgoat · 03/12/2018 21:36

Depends on the context entirely.

MsLexic · 03/12/2018 21:39

It's a deeply unpleasant word with connotations of misogyny.
I would not stick around tbh

theonlyKevin · 03/12/2018 21:39

As above, context is everything!

Who is the man?
What did you do/not do?

It's not victim blaming here before someone jumps on me, but if you just told a man you slept with is best friend/brother/father, being called a bitch would actually be a nice way to put it.

If you took his car keys because he was drunk, being called a bitch is the least of your problems.

If you forgot to buy milk, then he can move out immediately.

So without further details, no one knows!

ReanimatedSGB · 03/12/2018 21:39

I doubt I'd be bothered, but most of the people I spend time with insult each other in fairly light-hearted ways and no one minds. As PP have said, it depends on the context and the circumstances.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 03/12/2018 21:40

No, it really doesn't depend on context. It's unaceptable .

KataraJean · 03/12/2018 21:41

There is no context where being called a bitch is acceptable.

RoboticMary · 03/12/2018 21:42

Well, were you being a bitch?

AssassinatedBeauty · 03/12/2018 21:44

"There is no context where being called a bitch is acceptable." Quite.

Malwoddy · 03/12/2018 21:44

The 'were you being a bitch' comments are depressing.

ScrambledSmegs · 03/12/2018 21:47

I don't think there is any excuse for calling you this in front of your children.

theonlyKevin · 03/12/2018 21:48

The 'were you being a bitch' comments are depressing.

why? Because women never do anything wrong? Women never cheat, empty a man's bank account, prevent a man from seeing his children?
You are not helping anyone or any cause by pretending we are always right. Some women are or behave like bitches. You just have to read this forum to find quite a few example!

ScrambledSmegs · 03/12/2018 21:48

And to be honest, I'm not too keen on it in front of only adults too, but I have to admit some people do seem to be ok about it.

KataraJean · 03/12/2018 21:50

It is not about always being right - it is about the dehumanising, degrading nature of the language.

Why not use the vocabulary to say how someone is behaving - male or female? Why call a woman a female dog?

AssassinatedBeauty · 03/12/2018 21:52

For goodness sake. It's not about saying that women aren't perfect! It's about the fact that using misogynistic slurs in an argument is not acceptable.

TowerRingInferno · 03/12/2018 21:53

THere is no context in which that would be acceptable.

Snog · 03/12/2018 21:53

I would find it unacceptable, I hate the word and never use it myself

theonlyKevin · 03/12/2018 21:54

Why call a woman a female dog?
I don't know, why call a man a twat or a dick?

I don't really use that language in real life, but it's the OP who mention the word bitch

NotUmbongoUnchained · 03/12/2018 21:56

Depends.
I’ve never really understood the mumsnet stance on words. For me, the whole point of being in an argument or a fight is to attack each other.

theonlyKevin · 03/12/2018 21:56

For goodness sake. It's not about saying that women aren't perfect! It's about the fact that using misogynistic slurs in an argument is not acceptable.

We have no idea what the argument or the situation was about, so I cannot judge one way or another. Maybe the fight was gender-neutral, maybe it was related to the gender of the OP. Who knows.

7salmonswimming · 03/12/2018 21:57

Furious.

I’m not one, and even if I were it should never be said in those terms, and absolutely NEVER in front of a child. Every shade of wrong.

Kittykat93 · 03/12/2018 21:58

Ffs people thinking this is acceptable.

It's not, and saying it Infront of children is disgusting and degrading.

Malwoddy · 03/12/2018 21:59

@theonlyKevin

Because it's a catch-all insult generally reserved for women and, with limited exceptions, is not used for men behaving similarly (for example, the various circumstances that you listed). Its misogynistic.

GloomyMonday · 03/12/2018 22:11

I guess it's misogynistic in that it's reserved for women, but then there are plenty of unpleasant terms reserved for men : wanker, dick, prick, twat and so on. Many of those used on mn regularly. I think of a 'bitch' as a woman behaving in a mean way. Yesterday I was in the pub with friends when an acquaintance approached our table and made a sarcastic comment, thinly veiled as concerned, to a friend who has recently called off her engagement. It was a very unkind comment. As she walked off we all looked at each other and said 'what a bitch'. She was. It summed her up perfectly.
