To think you get stinkier as you get older

When I was younger I wore deodorant mainly because every one else did. I didn't really sweat that much.

However as I have got older I definitely need it and I definitely need to shower daily at least without fail otherwise everywhere feels decidedly manky. Yet when I was younger (and more of a minger) I used to go raving all night and not go home or shower for a day or so without being smelly (I honestly honestly wasn't before people say I must have been stinky though my feet admittedly were a bit Blush)

So do you get smellier (and Hairier though that's a different thread Grin) as you get older or is it just me?

Speak for yourself! Grin

Did you know that your sense of smell gets worse as you get older ... perhaps you can just no longer smell yourselves...

Not in my case, Ive got a nose that could put a springer spaniel to shame. I can smell BO from a mile off. Grin

This explains things.

Honestly, for me it was perimenopause. I had an early one and lived in the tropics so it was all a bit confusing. But it turned out it was definitely hormonal and once into actual menopause I reverted to no need for deodorant etc. So, there is hope. No periods and fresh summer meadow again. Disclaimer: we are all different!

I have the same problem with deodorants lately. It's so hard to find one that smells ok after a few hours. I use nivea black/ white stick and it works great. I had started to wonder if there's been some change in the laws around ingredients or something.

I've found going off caffeine has made a huge difference. Never drink coffee now.
I also make sure I shower and give the deodorant a chance to dry before having breakfast/hot drink as I think that sets me off again.

Some days this summer I smelled like an old goat. Kinda liked it if truth be told.

Oh god I cycle. I can smell my sweaty clunge all day at work. It makes me so self conscious. This never used to be a thing.

changeznameza · 10/12/2018 00:40

lucylugs that's weird, my normal deodorant - which has worked fine on me for YEARS - seems to have stopped working recently, and I now feel decidedly sweaty and whiffy at the end of each day. Ugh. Need to find a new one (or stop sweating so much)

Princess1066 · 10/12/2018 01:06

Men's deodorant is your friend - women's just doesn't cut the mustard these days Grin

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/12/2018 01:44

Definitely a thing. I thought it was just me!

I remember I could do a whole festival weekend with a packet of wet wipes. Now (at 45 and menopausal) I can barely do a day without a full bath (dont have a shower sadly), a "tarts bath" and two applications of Mitchum roll on, my body laughs in the face of spray anti perspirant.

I fucking stink!

StoppinBy · 10/12/2018 02:23

Yep, I barely needed deodorant until I had my kids, after they were born it was all downhill in the stink department haha.

You know you’re in a long term relationship when your other half still hugs you and doesn’t complain though 😁

WhoWants2Know · 10/12/2018 03:39

The sweat, though! I'll be doing something relatively simple like hanging washing out, and within minutes my hair is drenched.

Sweetpea55 · 10/12/2018 05:54

My armpits are still stinky even after a good wash. Iv found antibacterial hand-wash helpd
