to worry about my 6 week old projectile vomiting?

My baby is 6 weeks old and has twice now projectile vomited. Once last week, and once this morning. This morning was worse. He covered me in milk from about a foot away.

Is this a completely normal thing in babies? He's my first and I have no idea, but don't really want to drag him to the doctors if it's not necessary and be deemed a time waster...

In my experience (2 of them) babies do this sometimes! It's amazing how much they can cover in vomit. If it's not frequent and everything else is ok I wouldn't be overly concerned at the moment.

I would go . My niece had this and there was something wrong with her and she need a op . With little baby don't take no risks

NorahPerry · 03/12/2018 11:00

It's only been twice but it was not nice and he had a terrified look on his face before it happened. It's so hard not to worry...

Both of mine done this a fair few times as babies.

sally4ever · 03/12/2018 11:02

Both of mine did this a lot.

Nothing wrong with them.

DaphneDiligaf · 03/12/2018 11:18

This could be serious it is possible for the muscle at the top of the stomach to close and need to be operated in.

dizzydaisies · 03/12/2018 11:21

Was it after a feed? Mine started to get reflux around 6/8 weeks - nothing to worry about, and easy to manage, just chat to your midwife or gp.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 03/12/2018 11:23

Lots of vomit is fine but projectile should get checked - it can need a small op to correct it. My niece had this and it helped her immensely!

Catscakeandchocolate · 03/12/2018 11:26

Totally normal. Until 4 months the valve at the top of their stomach isn't closed so they cant control what comes back.

Please get this checked out. My son projectile vomited, and the doctors kept saying it was Reflux.
Even the hospital said it was reflux. Finally after an ultrasound he was diagnosed with Pyloric Stenosis. He needed an op to open up a muscle in his stomach.

4TeensAndAbaby · 03/12/2018 11:34

Forgot to add: With my son it was a gradual increase in the frequency in which he vomited. It wasn't after every feed to start with, but gradually became more and more often.
It was quite impressive with the distance it would go too!

NorahPerry · 03/12/2018 11:40

I'll definitely get it checked out then just in case. I'm sure it's nothing serious (well, 85% sure anyway) but wouldn't want to chance it with him being so tiny.

It was quite impressive. He was at least a foot away from me. It was scary. The look on his face beforehand was one of pure terror poor little guy.

When you get it checked ask if it could be Pyloric Stenosis.

DS2 had it at the same age. He had a little OP an was all sorted. We would regularly get showered in a whole feed. Sad

Other symptoms were hardly any wet nappies and a sunken soft spot.
