To ask for tips on surviving a boring job?

I can't leave my current job: I work in a niche area and there are no other local employers. I need to be local due to DC with SEN.

BUT I don't have enough work. I've tried asking for more work and it's actually become apparent that the two people more senior to me in our team also don't have enough work. So they either don't have anything to give me or they give me made up and pointless tasks to do.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that some days I have completed my tasks for the day by 9.30. I then have to stay there til 5.30! It's making me hate work - I actually love my job when it's busy but like this it's hell.

What can I do at my desk to pass the day?! News sites etc are out - I don't want to be caught browsing the internet.

Please help before I go INSANE.

Is there a volunteer job you can do eg admin./secretary/treasurer/publicity/social media for a PTA, a charity,or some other organisation?

I work part time at the moment, waiting for a start date for my new job. I’m a lone worker so have been able to get all my college work done at work!

Long time it’s not sustainable as it’s so boring with little to do.

In another job I had little work to do so offered to help a colleague. This was working for a huge bank HQ in Canary Whatf. HER boss then came over and had a go at me for offering to help the colleague! Apparently I should be getting on with my own work and not stealing work.

I spent the next 3 months on the internet and taking long lunch breaks before giving a week’s notice and leaving. So now I never ask fir extra work!

In another job I asked for extra stuff to do and was giving loads of archiving and shredding to do. So now I just keep quiet!

i was so bored in a job, they gave me shredding, i did it in colour sections
