To want to skip the Christmas party?

I feel it's something I can not get out of. Everyone is going, it's after work and it's going until the early hours. We've been told we must dress up as it's a posh venue.

These days, I want to be in bed by 9 with a cup of tea. I don't own a party dress, let alone heels. I don't drink alcohol either. To be honest, the thought of going to a loud party after a full day of work is my idea of hell.

Not going would look very very bad, so I don't have a choice unless I want to make things uncomfortable. I'd need a very very very good excuse.

Do you really not want to go, or can you not be bothered but would have fun when you were there?

NancyDonahue · 02/12/2018 21:53

Why do you have to go?

xsahm · 02/12/2018 21:55

Could you go for a couple of hours then leave quietly or say you're not feeling well?

madmum5811 · 02/12/2018 21:57

Have you got kids? If so tell everyone they are at home throwing up, then start pushing food around look green around the gills then rush to the loo with your hand over your mouth.

I don’t go and offer to cover so folk can head off. I hate work nights out. I’m already forced to spend 35 hours a week with the arseholes so in my free time I want to be with my family.

Say you’ve got a migraine.

Easy.

Say you’ve got family coming to visit unexpectedly

I have the same problem, I asked the Chat board for some advice and have decided to use the childcare excuse.

My work are not the type to understand not wanting to be in a big crowd and general feelings of anxiety, so lying it is!

I'd agree with using the headache excuse, or say you went over on your ankle funny - not bad enough for lasting damage. Just carry on a slight limp on Monday.

Go or its a big statement
Big entrance do the rounds have a drink

Can it be your family member / friends birthday or something that evening, and you can't go because you're seeing them for a birthday meal or something? Or pretend it's your anniversary and you have a date night planned?
