to think it seems like really hard work being a baby?

My gorgeous baby boy was born at the end of October.

So far I've noticed that he has a major meltdown every time he has wind, screams his head off when he has reflux (non responsive to meds so far), gets wound up when trying to feed and ends up shaking his head around like a crazy thing whilst missing my nipple entirely.... I'm sure I can add a few more things!

I'm finding it quite hard. I feel like he's actually suffering a lot of the time. It occasionally seems like he's in real agony!

Did anyone else find this hard to watch?

Is there a point where it suddenly just becomes easier for them?

Congrats on your baby!

I remember those days well - it's so difficult knowing they are in pain with wind and unable to bring it up themselves. Or that they can't communicate effectively how they feel. It definitely gets easier (the winding stuff) once weaning happens and they can tolerate and self burp.

My ds was like this as a baby. He had cows milk allergy and reflux.
He got a bit better once he was completely dairy free but was around 9/10 months before the reflux eased off.
He still can't have dairy now at 20 months and if he does he's a nightmare child.
It's hard but it does get easier. Have you trialled going dairy free to see if it helps?

LeroyIshy · 02/12/2018 19:15

@SprogletsMum DS is EBF and I've given up dairy in the run up to Christmas - that's how dedicated I am to make him better. Even ignoring my lovely advent calendar Sad

It is hard for them, and quite intensive for you too Thanks

From what you’ve described, I’m wondering if he’s ever been checked for Tongue Tie? Have a read of the article and see what you think Smile

I am 100% convinced DS hated being a baby. He was so whiny and foul tempered! He improved massively when he started crawling, and again when he learned to walk and talk.

And yes, the cause of his woes could we’ll be dairy.

My dd is a tiny bit older than yours (mid Oct) and I'm starting to notice a little bit of mood improvements as she is starting to look around and get distracted more. Def a grumpy bum a lot of the time but not as bad as last week (I was on antibiotics which I don't think helped the wind).

Think the head shaking before latching is not unusual in newborns. Having vivid flash backs to ds doing it and he didn't have a dairy allergy or cmpa.

Mia111 · 02/12/2018 19:29

Mine was like this too, it was awful! She's 9 months now and other than teething shes a lot better- I found she turned around at 7 months once she could do more.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 02/12/2018 19:42

My baby was hard work in the extreme but he had cmpa and I could tell from his blood curdling screams he was in agony. It wasn't tiredness wind or being over stimulated like the doctors kept saying thank god for one sympathetic on the ball consultant who knew what was going on straight away

SprogletsMum · 03/12/2018 19:23

That is dedication @LeroyIshy it took at least 6 weeks of no dairy at all for ds to improve at all.
Luckily these days if he has a reaction it only last for 3 or 4 days.
