Do you enjoy it or not?
If you have a DP do they cook?
If you have DC are you teaching them to cook?

Mostly pure survival, as my mother was (is) a terrible cook who loathes cooking and sees preparing food as a survival task!

I learned the basics from my father and grandfather, who were competent if slightly unimaginative cooks (soups, stews, pies etc) and the more glamourous bits from my older sister, who is a very intuitive cook with an excellent palate.

I like 'show' cookery and will happily cater a dinner party or similar, but the OH (who is a far keener and technically more competent cook than I am) does most of the D2D stuff. He always cooks, even when I'm away - when he's away, I tend to survive on sandwiches or eat cereal out of the packet...

I can't bake AT ALL (I once forced a friend to eat some scones I had baked and he had to go and lie down due to the indigestion they brought on), but I'm exceptionally good at making the most complicated of sauces. My hollandaise brings all the boys to the yard!

How did you get on OP?

I'm completely self-taught- my mum thought it was hilarious that I couldn't cook when I went to uni but she hadn't ever thought to teach me.

I love cooking, and especially baking. I was inspired by watching Bake Off and have just taught myself from books and lots of practice.

I challenged myself this summer to make at least 4 new recipes a week for evening meals- not all are a success but we've had fun trying new things.
