AIBU to be freaked out about the random bumping?

For the past few weeks every so often I am sat downstairs and I hear a thud as if a kid has fallen out of bed...go up and everyone is peacefully sleeping! Wtf is it???

I get this sometimes - mine sounds like someone walking around in the attic. Other people have heard it too, and I once went to check! After two years in this house I still don't know what causes it, but I've gotten used to it.

If you can only hear it downstairs it's probably an air block in yer pipes.

Or indeed, Santa. Checking if you are naughty or nice by your knickers drawer

Our TV speaker every so often makes a noise like something being dropped on the floor upstairs. We were a bit spooked until we realised what it was.

We have one cat who has a more muscular build than the other cats - he actually sounds like a person on the stairs. It freaks me out when DH is working 24 hour shift and I am home alone as it sounds like someone coming upstairs!

We’ve had something similar for the whole 7 years we’ve lived here: a weird scraping at about the same time every night. It was only two years ago that I happened to be in the spare room when it happened and I finally realised what it was- next door’s bedroom door scraping along the floor as she closes it when she goes to bed.

Could it be coming from the neighbours?

I've had sounds like walking around in the loft, turned out to be squirrels. Amazing what a racket they can make!

Thud from above - cat jumping down from on top the wardrobe (where he likes to sleep) or apples from neighbours tree falling on roof of extension.

Floorboard expanding or contracting because of heat I expect. We have some like that. Occasionally freaky if you're lying in bed and suddenly there's a vibration through it just as you're dropping off!
