To hoover at 3am!

Seriously why would you?

This was my daughters neighbour last night. She was awake because of her newborn but i doubt the other people in the block were until her idiot neighbour started hoovering.

I'm just baffled at the logic here

yes i would if i was awake. i hoover whenever i need to.

SpasticClunge · 02/12/2018 03:38

I often vacuum in the early hours when I can't sleep. Could be why she did it? Hmm

radishingravish · 02/12/2018 03:44

Because of work I am very nocturnal. The only time I can hoover is at night. I do feel bad for my neighbours, and if there was any way I could get around this I obviously would not choose to hoover when I know they are sleeping. But I do need to. And also they hoover during the day when I am sleeping and that wakes me. It is very much a lose-lose situation.

smackbangwhollop · 02/12/2018 16:26

I've had to do that once and I felt so guilty. I couldn't risk our feet or the dogs by leaving the glass there until the morning. Sometimes it has to be done. However if this is a consistent habit I'd have a friendly word.

PermanentlyFrizzyHairBall · 02/12/2018 17:12

@SpasticClunge

The question wasn't why she would want to hoover in the middle of the night the question was why she would actually do it without regards to the neighbours. Most people are more considerate (unless they have dropped a glass etc and really need to).

Dont see the issue. We all have to do the housework when we can. I put my washing machine on at 3am so it is ready for me to hang before going to work.

So because YOU can't sleep you don't think your neighbours should?

Hope you live in a detached house.

SpasticClunge · 03/12/2018 03:35

@BMW6 Yes, that's exactly right

mortifiedmama · 03/12/2018 06:00

If it's a one off, I don't see the issue. If it's a regular thing then it's inconsiderate and could be noise pollution/ anti social behaviour. If it is a regular thing then I'd have a chat with her and if that failed I'd speak with the council.

FourFuxxakes · 03/12/2018 08:14

To repeat several pps, the neighbour possibly dropped something that needed hoovering straight away - a glass or something made out of porcelain or a bag of sugar or something else equally messy. If it's just once I couldn't get worked up about it because it's one of those noises that I can block out, unlike an idling car engine or that high-pitched squealing noise that used to come on when the bbc or itv had finished for the night. If it happens all the time when I'd have a polite word and then, if no joy, talk to the landlord or council.

Unicornandbows · 03/12/2018 08:17

Would only hoover if there is glass. The hoover would be on less than 3mins I wouldn't then move on to hoovering the household.

pastabest · 03/12/2018 08:29

I would but I have no neighbours.
