Slapped cheek and pregnancy

Looking to find out if I am being unreasonable to worry. For two weeks my son has been poorly, worse than a cold but not as bad as flu. My daughter caught it and then I did. We are all getting better but tonight my sons cheeks are very red all of a sudden.
I work with children but I've never encountered slapped cheek in real life. It says online that once the rash comes it's not contagious, but that it can be dangerous in pregnancy.
I don't want to be a panic merchant but obviously I'm concerned as I definitely caught it from him. My partner says not to worry but I don't know what to do next.

How pregnant are you?

LokisLover · 01/12/2018 18:28

Are you pregnant?
It can be very dangerous in pregnancy and I think (but may be wrong) that it has different complications depending how many weeks pregnant you are. A very close friend had it in the early stages of pregnancy and it has caused problems with their dc.

I work in a nursery and cought slapped cheek whilst pregnant with my third ds.

I didn’t have immunity already/antibodies when I had the blood test so my son had almost weekly scans until he was born. I was looked after very well all along

Please ring your midwife she will organise a blood test

dobbythedoggy · 01/12/2018 18:28

How far along are you? I worked in a nursery where we had a couple of case when I was pregnant with my first. Spoke to my midwife and was told not to worry as I was far enough along for it not to be a problem. I can't remeber if it was 14 or 16 weeks.

Jaxtellerswife · 01/12/2018 18:31

I can't believe I left that out of the post, yes I'm 25 weeks. I'm just reading now and it says that there would likely be a high temp but he hasn't had one at all just generally unwell.

I caught it around 20 weeks (didn’t know I had it, only a blood test showed it) and was then scanned fortnightly to ensure my dd was ok.

I am in similar position op. Dd’s Nursery suspected she had slapped cheek about 2 weeks ago when I was about 26 weeks pregnant. I contacted my midwife who is checking my bloods from the 12week appointment to see if I am immune and also has taken a recent blood test to check if I’ve contracted it. If I have not got immunity then I’ll go for extra monitoring scans apparently. I’d just let your midwife know you suspect slapped cheek just incase.

Ok so the general consensus would be to call the midwife and not to go running to an out of hours somewhere or anything.
Thanks everyone I'll definitely call her

My daughter had it last year when I was 37 weeks pregnant kept her off for a week and went about my business. I was ok. Midwife didn't flinch. Doctor didn't say shit about me being heavily pregnant and a child with slap cheek

My guess would be because you were so far along at 37 weeks and all the baby is doing is growing. Before then (so at 25 weeks) a baby is developing which I suppose would be where this issue is?

ThatOneHurt · 01/12/2018 19:06

OP I was exposed to it via my kids and children at work when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I had no idea and had cuddled my kids and the children at work (special needs kids not mainstream).

I had an early scan and all was fine and I've had blood test and all was ok.
