To worry I've been a victim of fraud?

My childhood bank account has just a few pounds in it, I use it as a little savings account for holidays and stuff on and off. They text me every year with the balance.

The same number has sent me 5 texts over the last week or so, telling me my new credit card that I have never applied for, is ready, has been posted etc and to call x number if it doesn't arrive. I did so and they told me it was just an error and not to worry. On Monday, I had a text to say £800 had successfully been transferred from the card to my bank account and again today, for £700. (It hasn't.)

I've called them twice and they say my account has remained inactive since I last used it and if I haven't applied for a credit card, don't worry, it's probably just a mix up with phone numbers.

AIBU to want them to look at it properly? I feel like someone has opened a card in my name and is sitting there with money from it in their account and I'll end up liable for it one day...

You need to ask for the fraud dept as regular staff have limited viewing of your account.
Someone hacked mine to buy Xbox stuff and they couldn't see details - fraud dept dealt with it immediately and got my money back!!
£350!!

Or they accidentally gave the wrong phone number (off a digit) or the bank employee couldn’t read the mobile number due to hand writing and it was wrong. I would think it was more of a case of wrong number than fraud.

Check your credit file ASAP

I would also guess that someone has given the wrong phone number. If someone had applied fraudulently it would very hard for them to arrange for a card to be sent to an address that isn't yours.

Are you actually talking to your bank or a number given to you in a text? Always make sure you call your bank on a number from their official website or back of your card rather than one sent to you in an email or text

Yes I've called them from the number on their website. I've spoken to the fraud dept and they said they can't help me, that I need to go into a branch. The nearest branch is now 30 miles away and only open 9-4, so I can't go until Christmas holidays!
