Potatoes and comfort food

AIBU to maintain that there's no such thing as too much butter or soured cream on a jacket potato, and that a mashed potato sandwich between doorsteps of naice white bread is a perfectly reasonable thing to eat?

Yuk

CovenofMiLsfromHades · 30/11/2018 18:48

The carbs !?!

Lucisky · 30/11/2018 18:54

Racecardriver, I have had a further thought, a mashed potato sandwich, but fried. Make the sarnie, cut the crusts off, fry gently, flipping over, serve with salad. That makes it healthy.
Mind you, someone on masterchef did eggy bread this week, so who knows what the next big thing will be!

ToeCleavage · 30/11/2018 18:54

Hmm I don’t think I’d like a mashed potato sarnie, too soft. It puts me in mind of Milhouse’s dad’s rice sandwiches.

Now a chip butty on the other hand...

I did once put some left over pasta in a sandwich which wasn’t as lush as I thought it would be.

snivells · 30/11/2018 18:58

I once had a tortilla de patatas (as in proper Spanish omelette from Spain) in crusty white bread. LUSH.

LadyRochfordsSpikedGusset · 30/11/2018 19:34

I pretty much mainline hot jackets in this weather. Yet to be convinced on cold mash sarnies though.

Colcannon mash (hot) from M&S is a pmt treat, I'm hungry now.

DeathyMcDeathStarFace · 30/11/2018 19:39

Ooooo, mashed potato sandwich, haven't had one of those absolutely delightful things for many years. The warm potato melts the butter on the (white) bread to make it even better.

When I was young I would use instant mash Blush and cook a few frozen peas to go in too. It was easier and quicker to do for one person rather than cooking potatoes myself, but I loved that mash with loads of butter anyway.

And you are right, there is no such thing as too much butter etc on a jacket potato.

PinkBuffalo · 30/11/2018 19:48

Never thought of a mashed potato sandwich! Does it stay together ok?
I do love a chip butty though. I can mainline them in the cold weather!

AmmoniteMum · 30/11/2018 19:49

Not sure about cold mash but I quite like a bubble and squeak/roast potato sandwich with Worcester sauce on a cold Monday evening Blush

JellySlice · 30/11/2018 20:28

Lucisky, that reminds me of the bread-and-butter donuts we used to make in the sandwich-maker as students.

Lavishly butter thick white bread. Brush the un-buttered side with milk and put a generous dollop of jam/apple puree/custard/nutella on it. If you're feeling particularly decadent, put a Jaffa Cake in the middle. Top with a similarly buttered and milk-brushed thick slice of white bread, butter side out. Trim crusts. Pop in the sandwich-maker. When done, sprinkle with icing sugar. Lush.

My mum once got given a mashed potato sandwich as her main meal when she was in hospital!

Elledouble · 30/11/2018 20:34

I’ve never eaten a mashed potato sandwich but I totally would. Maybe even a toastie with some spices and onion and stuff, like a samosa.

PhilomenaButterfly · 30/11/2018 20:47

DM makes extra mash so she can have it cold in a sandwich the next day. She's weird.

Billydessert · 30/11/2018 21:17

Oh I just thought, when I have fish n chips I prefer to eat all the elements together in a buttery, crusty cob, including slashings of curry sauce. Yum!

CemetaryGates · 30/11/2018 22:06

Have you ever had a butter pie? It's just very soft buttered mash in a pie. It might be a Lancashire thing.

JellySlice · 30/11/2018 22:25

Oh it sounds heavenly!
