Blaming everything on reflux

QuestionableMouse · 30/11/2018 06:37

Was at the GP a couple of weeks ago with pain in my ribs in one side. She listened to my chest and declared it reflux. (I've never heard of rib pain caused by reflux and have struggled to find more information)

I've had a cough now for almost seven weeks. Have been (and still are sometimes) coughing up green crap. I was at the GP last Friday with it and again, apparently it's caused by reflux. Have another appointment in a few hours for the cough and I'm worried GP is going to say reflux again and not look any further.

I don't have any other reflux symptoms and I coughed to the point of throwing up just before posting this. Rib pain is also still there and still unexplained. It started before the cough but I'm worried they're linked. Aibu to want a proper examination rather than being dismissed and told it's bloody reflux? I have a family history of lung cancer and even with that they won't take me seriously!

Ah sorry the first sentence should say a couple of months. (And I actually think it's more like three now anyway!)

YANBU to want further investigations. I would try a different GP.

QuestionableMouse · 30/11/2018 06:44

It's the same GP today because it was the only appointment I could get 😐.

How long a wait for an Appt with someone new ? What about a walk in clinic?

I'm in Australia. Not sure what you have wherever you are

TheMaddHugger · 30/11/2018 06:48

Can You take someone with you. Often haveing a second person there with you as reinforcement is helpful to push that the problem really is that severe.
And it sounds severe

My partner has quite bad reflux due to hiatus hernia and has never complained of rib pain. I would be demanding a second opinion, not happy with what is said today speak to the receptionist and see when you can be seen by someone else.

QuestionableMouse · 30/11/2018 06:55

We do have a walk in but it's more for emergency things.

I can't get anyone to come this time. Tends to be a 2-3 week wait unless you phone at 8 am and try to book on the day.

I have private health insurance through work and if I get no joy I'm going to ask for a referral so I can use it. I'm sick of coughing... I even had to leave a lecture because I coughed so much. ( And had to leave one before that due to the rib pain)

Don't wait, get the referral now. Seriously, I got diagnosed with a pulled back muscle and I had an enormous pulmonary embolism that nearly finished me off!

Don't wait, get the referral started today. X

TheMaddHugger · 30/11/2018 07:03

are you game enough to do what I had to one.

Go in say you are going to record this visit on your mobile becasue you don't beleive you are 'being heard' properly.

It was the most polite and indepth appt I ever had with that chauvinist Dickhead.

It could also misfire. I dont know your Doctor. whom I beleive you said was femail ?

QuestionableMouse · 30/11/2018 10:35

So it actually didn't go too badly apart from the part where it looked like she wasn't going to be helpful (mentioned reflux again!!!) and I lost it and cried my eyes out.

She's listened to my chest again, I've had bloods taken (forgot to check what for), I'm being sent for a chest x-ray and she wants a sample of phlem to test.

So I'm a bit further forward. Still no real answer for the rib pain (one sided, very tender to touch and feels like a pulled muscle sometimes) but at least she took me more seriously. Practice is going to post me an open referral letter to use of I wish (I wish)

I am glad she took it more seriously. Good Luck. ((((Hugs))))
