I've had 3 Facebook 'friends' in the last couple of weeks set up charity donations for there birthday. Great idea yes but is thinking I can't donate to every one of my fb friends birthdays and also it's not as if it's a sponsored run or something which I like to donate just think these things are getting a bit much or aibu?

I generally only do it if I would have given them a birthday present.

People will donate if they want, if they dont they won't. I can't see the harm.

Cleanermaidcook · 29/11/2018 18:24

Same as blue, I only donate to someone I'd normally buy for and it would be instead of not as well as a gift for them.

Yes YABU, mainly for putting ‘friends’ in the OP. Facebook isn’t compulsory, giving isn’t compulsory, and having ‘friends’ isn’t either. I think it’s a nice idea and even if it only gets a few quid more for a charity then surely it’s worth it.

I think it’s really nice. A lot better than the go fund me pages that crop up after local tragedies “for the families” when you dont actually know what that money is going to- or whom.

I say 'friends ' cause I have 300 on fb and I'd be lying if I said they were all friends like people I'd send birthday card/presents. I regularly donate to charity I'm happy too , its just I can see a pattern here that it's 3 in 2 weeks .

you don't have to donate and the birthday person isn't directly answering you. It's for letting people who were thinking of getting them a gift to donate to charity instead.

newplacenofriends · 29/11/2018 19:20

asking not answering

newplacenofriends · 29/11/2018 19:21

there is no pattern. When it's someones birthday they get to choose whether they want the charity donation option or not. This is then shared on there wall for all their "friends" to see

My birthday was a couple of weeks ago. FB set the basics up for me, and asked me to choose a charity. I deleted it all.
