How much would it cost to outsource ALL housework?

Asking more out of curiosity, but still.

How much do you think it would cost to outsource all daily household chores (apart from those that are pleasurable / hobbies, like light gardening or walking the dog in good weather?)
Say two young children, single adult, 4 bed house. Cooking, cleaning and tidy-up, laundry / ironing, shopping, household admin etc.

Our nanny-housekeeper does all of that (except life admin) on weekdays, and she costs us about £43,000 a year.

If you didn’t need childcare you could maybe get a part time housekeeper whicu would obv be cheaper.

BunsOfAnarchy · 29/11/2018 17:49

@WerewolfNumber1 Marry me

KismetHardie · 29/11/2018 17:50

I don't really understand how someone else could tidy up for you but I guess that's because I'm a peasant, and only I know how my two wooden bowls should be stacked.

WerewolfNumber1 ShockShock

Where do I sign up to be a housekeeper?! You don’t have to be good at keeping your own house to be good at it as a job, right?

KoshaMangsho · 29/11/2018 17:54

Well. I don’t know why people are so gobsmacked. A half decent London nanny is roughly 2200-2500 a month. Add in housekeeping and that’s a reasonable salary no? I wouldn’t want to underpay someone looking after my kids and doing my household chores.

WerewolfNumber1 · 29/11/2018 17:58

Hah! Am amused by the comments.

I’m afraid marrying me wouldn’t help, DH earns the money (and he’s taken!).

Yes she doesn’t tidy the exact way I would all the time, but it’s mostly close enough, and it’s such a fantastic luxury to have her that I try not to sweat the small stuff.

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 29/11/2018 18:01

KoshaMangsho

Surely it’s not hard to imagine that some families don’t have the budget to even consider looking into how much a London nanny would cost? Let alone a nanny-housekeeper.

WerewolfNumber1 · 29/11/2018 18:04

@FrazzyAndFrumpled - bear in mind she doesn’t get all that as we are paying her taxes, employer taxes and pension on top of her actual salary - plus it’s zone 2 London so an expensive place to be!

silvercuckoo · 29/11/2018 18:05

Aw. I hoped for a more palatable answer.
My new cleaner's fees for the last month were close to 1K (she cleans until it is clean, not on a fixed number of hours) and my house still was filthy. I never did "family" housework myself really, apart from cooking, so wondered whether I am missing something.

Hmm, It wouldn't ned to cost that much. My cleaner does the cleaning, tidying and also irons if I want her to. She feeds the animals if we are away and babysits if necessary. if I had a shopping delivery coming when she's here she would put it away. She also does a lot of the laundry. She strips the beds and puts a load of washing and drying through each time she's here. She charges £10 an hour.

So in theory I could multiply that up and have her for £80 a day which is about £21k if weekdays only.

Bombardier25966 · 29/11/2018 18:08

£1K a month for a cleaner?

This is getting even more bizarre.

FusionChefGeoff · 29/11/2018 18:10

£1k a month for a cleaner...

And the house is still filthy - even weirder Confused

silvercuckoo · 29/11/2018 18:12

Well, she also walks the dogs. 5 hours dog walking a week and around 10 hours cleaning and tidy-up.

OP posts:
Hisashiburi · 29/11/2018 18:14

Don't you mean 1k per year? I think I've open the portal to a parallel universe!!

No but you can do some basic calculations, no? I feel a bit like that there is some snobbery here that a ‘nanny housekeeper’ earns 43K because ‘anyone could do it.’ That’s what I was remarking on- the shock that a nanny housekeeper could be well paid. Why not?!

KoshaMangsho · 29/11/2018 18:15

1K a MONTH on a Cleaner??? She works 15 hours a week, 60 hours a month. Why does she charge 1K?

AlpacaLypse · 29/11/2018 18:16

I'm struggling with £1000 a month for a cleaner. Only possible if she's doing several hours a day at yours. In which case why is house still filthy?

halfwitpicker · 29/11/2018 18:17

It's a full time job, at least. At 8 quid an hour?

PurpleWithRed · 29/11/2018 18:17

Are you including sex as housework? Or does that come under 'pleasurable chores'?

StupidBrexit · 29/11/2018 18:17

How big is your house, OP?

Bombardier25966 · 29/11/2018 18:17

What kind of a state was your house in that needed ten hours cleaning in the first place, and then is still filthy?

halfwitpicker · 29/11/2018 18:17

1k per month for cleaner - yes, but how big is the house?

VioletCharlotte · 29/11/2018 18:18

That sounds like a huge amount but probably about right. Dog walking is normally about £18 an hours isn't it? So that's £360 a month. Cleaning - £15ph x 10 hours a week is £600.

If the house is filthy after 10 hours cleaning a week, it sounds like she's not a very good cleaner! Unless you live in a mansion?!

Holidayshopping · 29/11/2018 18:18

£1000 a month and your house is still filthy.

I don’t really know where to start.
