Perhaps I've just had a run of bad luck, but it seems like recently the products and services I've used have been crap - and the more I've paid or the more money involved, the more rubbish it's been.
Anyone else had this?

In the last week:

  • Trying to buy a house - estate agent beyond useless, seems not to comprehend basic emails, and didn't call us once when were putting in initial offers (they just sent generic emails).
  • Had my hair Brazilian blow dried (over £300 for this, cut and products) - the blow dry hasn't worked - 5 days later and my hair is all frizzy again. Bought 3 products at the salon for £60 - when I got home, discovered the conditioner wasn't actually suitable for treated hair (and the lid was all smashed), plus they'd given me a totally empty bottle of hair oil.
  • Took my boyfriend for birthday dinner at The Shard - £280 and totally average food and service. So disappointing and so not worth it.
  • Trying to get my accountant to get back to me re my tax return - have had to chase him 4 times before getting a response. Today he emailed back saying that HMRC have said I owe the student loans company (despite me not having been a student for over 18 years). 5 min later he emailed back to say just to ignore that part (so I reckon he confused me with someone else). Worrying when these people are in charge of doing my return...
  • Went for dinner at a restaurant and had booked a table - after we'd been, we got an email from the booking website to say the restaurant had alerted them that we hadn't turned up. We had, just at a slightly later time than we'd booked for (we had called them in advance to change the time).
  • Stayed at a v nice hotel, again for DP's birthday - most I've ever spent on 1 night in a hotel ever, so wanted it to be amazing. Over £500, and the room wasn't the one the booking agent had sent a pic of when I booked. It was v nice, just not the one they'd shown me (think amazing bath in the room, separate suite etc). When queried, they said, oh the hotel has 4 different suites, you have to specify if you want a particular one.
Booking agent specified there was complimentary late check out and a free box of fudge - hotel had no record of it. I know it sounds really petty to get so upset over a box of fudge, but FFS, when I've paid so much for something in the first place, I wanted it to be perfect!!
  • Had gel manicure - both thumb nails were chipped the next day.

Argh, rant over.
First world problems, I know, but anyone else feel the same about products, services, etc - its all just a bit shoddy?

YANBU, its probably down to the high house/rent prices.

But it’s still no reason for poor service?

YANBU almost everything seems to be rubbish - I think it is because businesses and service providers try to remove costs from everything obsessively all the time rather than caring about service.

I hear you - I booked tickets for an event which was cancelled, so I called the number I was given to book tickets for another day. Apparently it takes 3 DAYS to process the exchange, meanwhile the tickets are still available for anyone to book, so I'm stuck in limbo waiting to see if I get any tickets at all, even though there were some available when I tried to book, and, of course, there were plenty when I booked originally!

dojo - that must be soooo frustrating!!

badlydrawn - I agree. All services are shit. To add yet another example: after spending all of that money this week on all those crap things - my bank decided to put a block on my debit card without any warning at all, so i was left wondering WTF was wrong with my card. 20 min on hold to some call centre in India, and they’re just like, oh yes we decided your spending patterns were irregular so we blocked it. I’m all for preventing fraud etc, but why not warn people first to alert them? Other banks do it - my friend said he gets a text if there’s any unusual activity on his account.
