to get DH this for Christmas?

DH wants a fancy coffee maker.

I want to get him one fit Christmas.

Problem... I would probably also use said coffee maker..

Is it then super cheeky to buy him something I would probably end up using too?

Should I get him something more just for him?

We've just had a baby so not got a huge budget...

Not cheeky at all! I have just done the same for my DH’s birthday and he loved it. I think it’s a win win Smile

toriatoriatoria · 29/11/2018 09:35

That's not cheeky at all, don't worry. If that's what he wants them go for it!

BunnyTeapot · 29/11/2018 09:36

If he wants a coffee maker, get him a coffee maker 😊 I got my dh a coffee machine years ago and we still both use it now. Like when I wanted an ironing board and hoover.. we both use them but they were bought for me if that makes sense.
We've bought the Google home this year to us both from us both because like you we've just had a baby too.

Do it.

BasiliskStare · 29/11/2018 09:38

I would say absolutely fine to do that. Don't even think twice. If he wanted it and you end up using it , grand , better value Grin

empmalswa · 29/11/2018 09:39

I wouldn't. Surely that's just another appliance for the kitchen?

twoshedsjackson · 29/11/2018 09:43

You're getting him what he really wants, and your sharing the benefit counts as a bonus; the more joy at any time of year, the better!
Friend of mine paid for her husband, an enthusiastic cook, to have a course of lessons in Italian cookery, and has been merrily relishing the results ever since!

TheChickenOfTruth · 29/11/2018 09:44

Buy a few little things specific for him, like some flavoured syrups that he will really like and/or a special fancy coffee glass.
Then he will know that you were mostly thinking of him. Might make it a bit more special?

PermanentlyFrizzyHairBall · 29/11/2018 09:45

Get him one that's lovely! I think it would be cheeky if you wanted the coffee maker more than he did but it sounds like he's the one who had the idea and wanted it the most so go for it.

BadBear · 29/11/2018 09:46

Do it! If that's what he wants then he will be delighted that you have been paying attention to his wishes.

One year my DP bought us a fancy coffee maker as part of my Christmas gift but he did it on Boxing Day and I'd never said anything about buying a coffee maker... I love coffee but it was definitely his idea, not mine. I am still grateful he did even if he was really buying it for himself. If I can get over that then I am sure your DH will love your gift! Grin

PlaymobilPirate · 29/11/2018 09:50

Has he already bought for you? Could you just say 'let's buy us a coffee machine' as a gift to each other?

Alfie190 · 29/11/2018 10:03

I wouldn't buy a bog standard kitchen appliance (kettle, toaster, iron) as a present, but a non essential one like coffee maker, yes absolutely. I bought my husband something he would like that I also use and I would be perfectly happy with anything to go with my kitchenaid stand mixer.

FourFuxxakes · 29/11/2018 10:07

It's a nice idea. I'd get it. Think about the pods though if the model you choose uses them - are they recyclable and if so, are they easy to recycle?
