To ask for blood tests?

I know how underfunded the NHS is and how busy GP surgeries are so really unsure how to go about this.

There's nothing actually wrong with me or at least nothing that would warrant a doctor's appointment. However I'm fat(working on it..badly), getting older, stressed ,tired etc. Main reason though is that OH went for something unrelated and it turns out he has high blood pressure and prediabetic. He's on two types of meds now and more tests/investigations are required. If he hadn't gone for his knee we would have had no idea.

So now I'm wondering if I can ask the GP to get some blood tests done for my own peace of mind. Is it even possible?

Yes, it is possible to have these tests without symptoms although if you are tired all the time that is a symptom ( although a very common one and usually nothing)!

You can get your blood pressure checked at pharmacies then if that did turn out to be high you would definitely need to see a GP. That might be a place to start?

I would probably phone midweek, hope for a good receptionist and explain. It might be they could give you a nurse or HCA appointment for tests without seeing a GP. Or a GP might call you rather than needing to go in.

I had blood tests a few years ago because I was generally very run down (for several months), they all came back fine thankfully.

I would look at it as if you get tested now and find out that you’re pre-diabetic for example, you can do something about it now before it develops into something worse. Prevention is better (and cheaper!) than cure after all!

I wouldn’t take an urgent appointment for it, but certainly ask for a routine one (usually several weeks away)

Thank you. Good to know. I don't do doctors much so had no idea if they'd agree. What if my blood pressure is fine? I don't actually need to see a GP , just having bloods done and check everything is ok. OH not being ok made me quite anxious. He's an ok weight, much fitter and more active than me and his diet is better.
