How to get to A&E

Mrspotter12 · 28/11/2018 20:41

If I need to go (poss infection and sepsis) how should I get there?
DH is home as is 10yo DD. I don't want her in a busy A&E, it's 23 miles away and I can't afford a taxi. Would I morally be ok to accept an ambulance if one is suggested!
This is not a question of IF I should go, but of transport. Thank you.

Does your DH drive? He and 10yo can drop you off.

GinaLinetti99 · 28/11/2018 20:42

Can DH drop you? To be honest, I think if you can physically get there without an ambulance, you should - however, if you are unable to, you should call an ambulance. Don't wait. Sepsis is dangerous.

ChocolateTea · 28/11/2018 20:42

Get DH and DD to drive you there and drop you off, it's only a 30-40 minutes max drive at that distance?

Good luck, hope you're OK

Turniptracker · 28/11/2018 20:43

Absolutely not. An ambulance should only be called in an emergency in a life threatening situation. It is absolutely not a taxi service because you can't bring yourself to pay for one!!! If you can't afford a taxi ask someone for a lift or ask a volunteer driver service to take you.

MuddyMoose · 28/11/2018 20:44

I'd get DH to drop you off. Obviously, if this isn't viable for whatever reason then an ambulance is needed especially if you do think you have sepsis. Hope you're OK.

Caprisunorange · 28/11/2018 20:45

Just get dropped off by DH.I don’t really understand your OP- who offered you an ambulance?

YeOldeTrout · 28/11/2018 20:45

ambulance if no one can drive you; but talk thru how you feel with NHS111 to be sure

Dermymc · 28/11/2018 20:45

Dh drops you surely

YeOldeTrout · 28/11/2018 20:46

What are your symptoms, OP?

YeOldeTrout · 28/11/2018 20:47

I'm trying to remember if I was well enough to ponder the ethics of different transport options when I went to hospital suddenly for 5 days.

jadfiewahnds · 28/11/2018 20:47

FFS sepsis is an emergency! Call 111, see what they recommend. People on here are weird about ambulances, please get proper medical advice asap. I've had sepsis, nearly died, hope you're ok

naicepineapple · 28/11/2018 20:47

Just get DH to drop you off then go home with DD. Take an overnight bag with you just incase

PestoSurfissimos · 28/11/2018 20:48

If there’s two of you home, then surely between you, you can rustle up the money for a 23 mile taxi journey? Ring for a quote first and get a fixed price.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 28/11/2018 20:48

Is there no one else who could take you? Alternatively, 10 isn’t that young and could easily cope in A&E.

Nicknacky · 28/11/2018 20:48

H can take you. I was refused an ambulance for a child who couldn’t move for neck pain so why would you get one for logistical reasons?

Innocentconglomeration · 28/11/2018 20:48

How far is a&e?

DH and DD take you, drop you and DH goes home with DD.

MiniCooperLover · 28/11/2018 20:49

Your DH drives you there and then drives himself and your DD home.

Innocentconglomeration · 28/11/2018 20:49

Oh I missed 23 miles.

DH and did take you and drops you off and go home.

Alternatively chap up a neighbour to sit with dd and DH takes you and drops you.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 28/11/2018 20:51

I would probably get DH to bring DD drop you off and then head home with her but if an ambulance is the only thing possible then it's important you get to hospital if you might have sepsis.

redsummershoes · 28/11/2018 20:51

as everyone says - dh drops you off and returns home in car.
take phone + charger, a book and a snack/drink.
good luck

Keel · 28/11/2018 20:51

Can a neighbour , friend or relative sit with your daughter while your husband takes you. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

PermanentlyFrizzyHairBall · 28/11/2018 20:51

I don't think you can call an ambulance because you don't want your DD up too late in the car. If you're worried go right now in the car DH drops you off and takes DD home. Or if possible have a neighbour sit with DD while DH takes you to hospital.

historyismything · 28/11/2018 20:52

Sepsis is life threatening! Call 111 they may send one anyway. Hope you get better soon

babysharkah · 28/11/2018 20:53

Suspected sepsis is an emergency and can deteriorate quickly. Step dad was blue lighted last Boxing Day and pretty much early died en route but managed to pull through. Don't fanny about.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 28/11/2018 20:53

If you have Uber then you can “owe” them a taxi (so if you have no money in your account, you can get the taxi then they either intermittently try and take it or you pay before you get your next Uber
