To wonder why people reply 'zombie thread!' on zombie threads

Threads on here often come up as a result of Google searches. So resurrections are bound to happen often. Why do HELPFUL people here like to then pile on and state 'zombie thread!' - what's so bad about reopening discussions?

OP posts:
SilverySurfer · 28/11/2018 18:48

Because you get fucking stupid posts asking, eg. 'how did it go, OP?' when the thread is seven years old. It's ridiculous and annoying.

DishranawaywiththeSpoon · 28/11/2018 18:50

I was really hoping this would be a zombie thread itself Grin

This annoys me a bit, this first one not so much but often posters pile on and can be a twatty about it. It only needs one 'zombie thread' message otherwise it's just keeping it in active threads.

I think there are occasions when posters might want to reanimated a thread, if it's a specific problem they too are having on the off chance that the OP might read it.

“Because you get fucking stupid posts asking, eg. 'how did it go, OP?' when the thread is seven years old. It's ridiculous and annoying.”

Who cares though? It’s a chat forum, you can’t control it.

Ecco’s echo thread.

LalaLeona · 28/11/2018 18:52

Yes I find it really irritating when people shriek "zombie thread!" Who cares if it is?

ScrambledSmegs · 28/11/2018 18:55

There used to be a little picture of a zombie next to the message box on zombie threads. He was sweet.

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2018 18:55

Why do people want MN to be exactly the same as all other forums ever? they are the same people that would love a Like button and colourful tickers probably.

Caprisunorange · 28/11/2018 19:01

MN is a really basic and old fashioned forum. I don’t think people want it to be like other forums, just come out of 2003 really.

Returnofthesmileybar · 28/11/2018 19:01

RustyBear that makes me howl every time I read it 😂

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2018 19:05

I am ok with basic and old fashioned and it all works fine, but I don't frequent any other forums.

hammeringinmyhead · 28/11/2018 19:08

There's a difference between "Can I have advice on elective c-sections" bumps and "Should I rehome my dog" posted in 2010 bumps when said dog is almost certainly no longer with us.

Honeyroar · 28/11/2018 19:10

I've never seen that Ecco post before! How funny- not even a post between them! Shall we bump it and see if she comments again and makes it a hat trick?

WinterfellWench · 28/11/2018 19:12

To wonder why people reply 'zombie thread!' on zombie threads...?

Because they are zombie threads. Confused

WinterfellWench · 28/11/2018 19:13

I think threads should automatically lock 12 months after the last post on it.

SnuggyBuggy · 28/11/2018 19:17

To warn people not to waste their time replying to a long gone OP. I think it's ok for the OP to resurrect if they have an exciting update but other than that start your own bloody thread. The internet isn't new, we all know the etiquette.

My favourite zombie thread was the fucking awful cat one.

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2018 19:19

Isn't there one about carpet fitting that gets resurrected about twice a year?

henhelppls · 28/11/2018 19:33

I just think it's counterproductive (and a bit contradictory) to point out that somebody is resurrecting an old thread and thus bump it yourself.

OP posts:
Notso · 28/11/2018 19:39

I'm always grateful, it's annoying trawling through a whole thread only to realise it's now irrelevant.

Caprisunorange · 28/11/2018 19:40

“Today 19:13 WinterfellWench

I think threads should automatically lock 12 months after the last post on it.”

It should but the Mn forum appears to be too crap to manage that functionality....

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2018 20:02

Maybe MNHQ have never tried to do that? It may be perfectly possible...

Teagoanngoanngoann · 28/11/2018 20:07

Ive only just worked out what the term zombie thread means thanks to this post!! Hmm Thanks Op x

Caprisunorange · 28/11/2018 20:08

I really doubt it -they never lock threads, which is usual on other forums, just blanker delete

MrsTerryPratcett · 28/11/2018 20:10

And why not reopen the chat?

I think it's rude. Like talking about someone (the OP) behind their back.

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2018 20:10

What are all these other perfect forums?

VerbeenaBeeks · 28/11/2018 20:13

I can't remember which poster it was, but someone on here actually replied to their own op. It was so long ago they had forgotten about it.

Ha, I remember that one! Grin
Wasn't it about a pushchair? Someone posted something like they were thinking of buying a new buggy, did anyone have any experiences of it.
OP's future self answered saying she had one of those lol.
Then came back saying "Oh, FFS, I'm talking to myself!" Grin
Amazing.
