to expect to pay less for something than when it was purchased 15 (!) years ago?

So, I am looking to buy a second hand bed frame. The owner claim they paid £1,500 for it when they bought it 15 years ago.

It is a beautiful wrought iron super king sized frame. BUT surely to be expected to pay £1,500 today is a tad outrageous? Hmm

What would you think was a fair price? It is in good nick and very pretty. I thought it was pretty standard to pay at least 30% less

After reading all your posts I will definitely not offer more than up to £200 for it. As a lot of you have said it will be of great hassle for them to remove it.

Interesting about the wrought iron beds on Ebay...Hmm
Also, thanks so much for links for other beds. A sturdy bed is a good bed.

OMG the photo from Bedknobs and Broomsticks Grin

Hi OP I know this thread is a couple of days old now but just to add my voice to the people saying don’t pay it.

Paying for fixtures can add complications to a property transaction especially when it’s over a nominal value which £1500 probably would be. You don’t want to find yourself having to add it to the value of the house for the purposes of calculating stamp duty, for example.

You can see how devaluing the house and then charging for fixtures might be a tax dodge - there is legislation in place against it I believe. So don’t fall foul of that. Discuss it with your solicitor.

But seems like youre not going to pay it anyway, good on you!

OP please let us know how you got on when you refused to pay that much.

I completely agree. I can get a brand new bed for £500 - £700 with guarantees and warranties.

If they want more than £150 they can just remove it themselves
