Differences between Irish and British people

Inspired by the very interesting thread on differences between British people and Americans.

I'm Irish and over here we watch British TV, have loads of British chain stores in our towns and cities, read very similar newspapers, British magazines, grew up reading British comics etc. but yet we're very different in many ways from British people, particularly English people I would say.

I'm just wondering what people think the main differences are? We're pretty crap at timekeeping in Ireland, have a fairly distinctive sense of humour, and aren't that bothered about breaking minor rules and regulations.

Any other differences people have noticed?

Sorry to comment on a very old thread and I know this is quite morbid content but I do find the subject of death and how English people deal with it as opposed to Irish people quite bizarre. My comments are in no way meant to cause offence but I just find the difference enormous. I grew up in rural Ireland until 25 and have been living in Hertfordshire for the last 15 years. My Mother sadly passed away recently and we had a typical Irish funeral even though Covid restrictions were adhered to as much as possible. Everyone offered condolences and help in whatever way they could. There was no big booze up like some might think. I returned to England after a week or so and found the reactions from English friends/colleagues baffling. Nobody in work mentioned it once. Some of them just gave me a weird sympathetic sort of awkward look. I know everyone has their own way but I sort of feel sorry for English people if that's the most common reaction to death. Again, I know this is stereotyping but I am close with maybe 30 English people who all reacted the same and my friends have shared similar stories.

It's so ignorant to have sweeping generalisations. I'm half English and half Scottish and the anti English rhetoric pisses me right off. Its Racism plain and simple.
