To only consider Paris

DH wants to spend around 7-10 days in France next summer.... towards the south somewhere. We have two young children - 7 and 8. I think we should grab the opportunity and stay in Paris so we can see the sights and do a couple of days at Eurodisney. He is dead against it saying it should be time to relax as well, sooooooo... to compromise, I want to suggest somewhere that we can stay on the outskirts of Paris so we are in driving distance/train distance of Paris etc but still feel out of it enough to feel relaxed and in the country. Any suggestions? I know I am BU to only want to be close to Paris BUT I do want to make sure we are all happy and have the holiday we all want.

Unless your children are seasoned hikers, a couple of days at Disney is knackering and Paris is also a lot of walking to see it properly. None of you would feel v rested.

Totally agree with your dh on this. Paris or Disney is a few days at most. Go south and stay for 7 nights and then do 3 on your return to Paris /euro Disney. I've been to Paris in August and it is not great. It empties out as all the parisiennes leave the city. Great you say, less crowds, not so much, lots of tourists, hot and smelly ! What it does mean is that a lot of businesses close during that time and we found eating out difficult.

😂 I guess on this one I was BVU! I haven’t been to Paris (or France) which is why I guess I have a romanticized view of it all. You guys have definitely altered my thoughts though. Still researching but I am thinking I will be following your advice and letting DH have his way THIS time 😂 and we’ll go to Paris another time. Think I am aiming to throw Eurodisney in for a day or two though. Thanks all - you have all been helpful.

why not spend a few days in Paris and then drive / get the train down south? Definitely wouldn't spend all that time in Paris (or any city as a holiday).

Paris is ace - my dc were 4&5 when we went and they loved it - but only for 3 days, as it’s exhausting. I’d do what the others have said and 3 days there then go elsewhere. 7&8 is definitely old enough to appreciate a city IMO. And Paris is amazing (ignore the naysayers!) France is a fantastic country, we go every year (twice this year) as it’s so good for kids. Have a wonderful time.

I spent 2 weeks in Paris with kids and dp...it was awesome...we did get out to the country though.
They loved Eiffel tower, montparnasse , seine boat trip, Eurodisney etc.

I think I'm with your husband...7-10 days of euro Disney would be too much, the south of France is really nice, has plenty to do and see and has lovely beaches for the kids...why not spend a day at euro Disney, then spend the rest of the days in other parts of France, it's a good compromise and you all get to see more of France and explore Grin

Paris is for grown-ups? What rot. Eiffel Tower, swimming in the Trocadero fountain, cafes, ice creams at Berthillon, catacombs, Cite de Sciences (fantastic hands on museum). Never done Disney though.

My children love it. We first took them when they were 5 & 3, and we’ve been back a few time’s since. But I would agree that 2 or 3 days is enough each time. We tend to use it as a stop off when travelling further into France/Italy/Germany.

@easyandy101 I am from Fontainebleau! And yes beautiful area with plenty to do and 40min train journey to Paris

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 28/11/2018 07:34

I've been to Paris twice in the summer. I'd rather chop off my own arm and beat myself senseless with it than ever go again. Its so hot, its so crowded....its awful. Dreams of sitting in Parisien pavement cafe's watching the world go by...NOPE. Going to the Louvre was one of the worse experiences of my life.

Go to Paris in the spring or the autumn with your DH.

CherryPavlova · 28/11/2018 07:36

My children enjoyed Paris but it was quite hard work rather than truly relaxing. They do still remember Euro Disney with pleasure but it might have all changed now.
Could you use Eurostar, stop for a couple of days in Paris then head down to Avignon or Annecy by TGV?

3-4 days in Paris is enough - one full day at Disney, one day in Paris sightseeing, any more will drive you mad (Disney) or it's too much for the kids. Paris is so much busier these days, my girls are a lot older that your kids and it's still a bit overwhelming. We stayed in the south for a week (used Booking.com to find an apartment) then stayed 4 nights at Disneyland taking the RER one day to visit Paris. Not going back in August again, thinking about February next year!
