To think 5k for six month smile

poppym12 · 27/11/2018 13:02

(top teeth only) is extortionate?

No extractions required, just Six month smile and retainer - quote is a few pence short of £5k.

I know dentistry isn't cheap. I don't expect it to be. Apparently this is their cheaper option (invisalign is also carried out there).

Research I'd done before my appointment set my expectations at around half of that.

Sorry what’s a six month smile?

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 27/11/2018 13:04

Is it orthodontic work?

Toffeerose · 27/11/2018 13:07

Have you looked at an Inman aligner?
I've just got one and the difference in 2 weeks is incredible. Hopefully my treatment will be done in 12 weeks total.
It's also so much cheaper but only does the front 6 teeth so might not be an option for you.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 27/11/2018 13:11

How often are they adjusted/changed/checked and is it all included? Presumably you’ll be wearing the retainer for life once your course of treatment is complete?

I haven’t had adult braces (my teeth are still relatively straight after teenage orthodontics) and so cant comment on the cost, but I dont think it sounds crazy. Not for 6+ months of specialist cosmetic dentistry treatment and a follow up appliance that you’ll use for a lifetime.

poppym12 · 27/11/2018 13:16

After fitting, checks and necessary adjustments would be done every 4-8 weeks. Obviously the six month name of the procedure is tenuous as it will take as long as is needed.

This procedure is also to address the front teeth only.

I'm hoping to hear from people who have had adult cosmetic dentistry to gauge costs etc.

My inmans costing 1745.00 but that includes the straightening followed by whitening.

lola006 · 27/11/2018 13:28

I paid around £2k for my Inman Aligner and that included several visits to shave the tiniest bit of enamel and the permanent retainer. I had what was considered a moderate bad case (one of the lateral incisors was pushed really far back so room had to be created as the aligned brought it back to the others) and it took 12 weeks.

Chesntoots · 27/11/2018 13:43

I'm having invisilign done at the moment. My teeth were really bad so it is going to take 18 months give or take.

They have cost me £3800 including whitening at the end. I've had them in about 6 months and can really see a change.

poppym12 · 27/11/2018 14:04

I don't think Inman would work for me as mine slope slightly inwards rather than outwards.

OP posts:
Toffeerose · 27/11/2018 14:13

So do mine.

I've got 2 on one side that slope in and 1 on the other side that's kind of twisted but stuck out aswell. I think it would be referred to as a snaggle tooth in America!
The Inman works by a spring so it's pushing my 2 innie teeth outwards whilst pushing snaggle outie back in.

It's crazy but in 2 weeks the difference really is noticeable.
Your dentist should tell you if it's an option for you.
Mine suggested it straight away after he had a good look.
I'd definitely ask.

I’m currently having Invisalign treatment carried out to my top teeth only. It is costing me in the region of £3k and includes whitening.

I have been given 6 sets of slingers, which i chnge on a weekly basis to speed the process up. I am currently on week 5 and the change already is immense.

I am due to go back next week to obtain my next 6 aligners. My dentist has said if I need any further slingers, this will be carried out free of charge.

After the straightening has finished, I am then having my front 4 teeth veneered. These are costing a further £750 each.

To me, my teeth are the one thing I absolute hated about my appearance. I would never smile with my teeth showing. I am 41 and wished I had accepted a brace as a teenager.

I cannot wait for my new smile to be complete.

My dentist (Norwich based) said treatments in London, can be almost double this cost!

luanmapo · 27/11/2018 14:17

To note, I am a bit lispy, but nothing too severe. They are really comfortable to wear also.

bookswinebookswine · 27/11/2018 14:22

It's not just to do your front teeth- they have to move all your teeth to move your front teeth. I work in an orthodontic practice in central London so our prices are on the higher side. but this does sound like a lot for a 6 month smile for just the upper teeth. Are they using white brackets at least? The retainers included is it the wire and the removable plastic retainer or just one of them?

poppym12 · 27/11/2018 14:34

That's interesting toffeerose, thank you.

bookswine, yes all the teeth have to be moved but overcrowding isn't an issue. My understanding is that I would have a fixed retainer and maybe a removable one.

I'm not in a city or particularly expensive part of the UK.

My front two teeth sloped inwards and one of the teeth next to it was crooked. I recently (aged 48) had a bog standard metal train track on my top teeth only.

Estimated as needed for 9 months. Cost £1425 including all follow up appointments, teeth shaving if needed, a fixed retainer and a retainer for night once treatment in finished.

I'm near Manchester.

MyArris · 27/11/2018 14:39

Oh, and I've had it on 7 weeks and my teeth have already straightened up brilliantly.

poppym12 · 27/11/2018 21:36

Sounds like you have my teeth MyArris.

I've got a consultation with a different dentist booked for later this week for Cfast (looks the same as six month smile) and their price is around £2000 for one arch which seems more in line with my research.
