Vicks on feet

Grated ginger in water

Honey and lemon

Propped up as much as possible

I had it for 5 weeks, first off told it was a virus, then pneumonia then bronchitis.
Was horrendous

Two and a half years ago I had pleurisy and whooping cough, I had to have an mri on my lungs and they found I’d broken four ribs with coughing.

The pp who mentioned the 100 day cough, that’s what my consultant called it. I was actually ill from towards the end of April, until the end of August. I wasn’t really properly better until October and I still have some side effects even now (shares in Tena Lady). Grim!

One tip I was given by a Dr that did help quite a lot was taking an old style antihistamine like Benadryl or piriton (i.e., brompheniramine or chlorpheniramine, the type that make you drowsy). Found it did help to reduce the coughing reflex enough to sleep.

Hope you start to feel better soon 💐

Warm moist air helps. You can create some by putting your nose under the duvet. It really works.

Well to the people who mentioned Vicks on the feet..... it worked!.
I haven't coughed since I don't know what it is but it's taken the cough awayShock I slept from 1am to 9am cough free.

Sorry to hijack (love that typo btw) but would baby snufflebabe rub work on babies feet for this? DD is 9 months and having a very phlegmy cough with her cold, sometimes it's getting into her throat and she's gagging then being sick. We clear her out with saline and an aspirator but that's not shifting the cough Sad

Fatbutt · 27/11/2018 11:49

to the OP... try Ex-Lax, you won't dare to cough!

I have used Broncho stop syrup and lozenges when mine got really bad, and it really took the edge off, but tasted like stinky socks dipped in poop! (its funny what you'll do to get a few hours sleep though!)

PazRaz10 · 27/11/2018 12:03

Definitely Vicks on your feet.

myrtleWilson · 27/11/2018 15:59

How much vicks did you put on -anita- I applied but have coughed today. Having said that mine is a tickly frog in throat sort of cough so I don't know if I'm coughing out of need or perceived need... But yay for you!

PazRaz10 · 27/11/2018 16:24

I think the Vicks works best at night - no idea why. I put a thin layer all over the feet (normally on my DC), I suppose the same thickness as I would on the chest. Then i put warm socks on them straight away.

@anitagreen just caught up on this! So thrilled it worked...it's some weird magic but it works!

PandaWhere · 30/11/2018 01:35

I am reading this in China. I am here for work; feeling crappy, and I have exhausted the box of lemsips I have with me plus my one strip of cough sweets.

Coughing away. Can't stop.

There is no western chemist around.

Trying some weird Chinese alcohol that's a bit like brandy, warm with water and a bit of sugar.

Also trying bowl of warm water in bedroom as air con not helping with the room being dry. There's also a lot of pollution outside which isn't helping either.

I have been given some Chinese medicine. God knows what's actually in it but I am giving that a go. I have plain paracetamol as well, but I don't have a temperature. It's just this cough and sore throat and constant nose blowing.

I'd do anything for some vix, some decongestant and another pack of soothers 😔

SandAndSea · 30/11/2018 02:02

I hadn't heard of Vicks on the feet before. That's really good to know.

I would have suggested drinking pineapple juice and steaming with olbas oil.

anitagreen · 01/12/2018 00:22

@myrtleWilson sorry I just saw this now! And I did put quite a lot on and massaged it in I had no idea how much to put on and then shoved the socks on x
