A x E = DI, B x E = AE, C x E = C, D x E = IA, E x E = BA,
F x E = E, G x E = JB, H x E = GI, I x E = FB, J x E = AC

GreenEggsHamandChips · 26/11/2018 20:31

F=1

Working on the rest... not got a pen and paper

minniemummy0 · 26/11/2018 20:31

I don’t even see a question there.

GreenEggsHamandChips · 26/11/2018 20:34

Oh is it one of these horrible each letter is a different digit. In which case it just makes me cross because its bad maths

If not E is also 1

GreenEggsHamandChips · 26/11/2018 20:34

I=B

Merryoldgoat · 26/11/2018 20:36

What is the actual question?

Based on the above, you can’t get any numerical information so what are they after?

GreenEggsHamandChips · 26/11/2018 20:37

Oh it's a bad maths one SadAngry yuck

I'm out

Jeffacake · 26/11/2018 20:38

It’s a really odd one and doesn’t make much sense. I assume they need find values for the letters.

F and E are both 1. The rest I’ve played about with but end up going round in circles.

Janek · 26/11/2018 20:38

I am going to go out on a limb and say they all = 1...

kicker · 26/11/2018 20:39

The question is just solve the code.

OP posts:
GreenEggsHamandChips · 26/11/2018 20:39

I think Each letter represents a digit. Your meant to find the digit, except AB does not meant AB like it should in good notation. It meant (Ax10 +B). Id complain about it teaching bad notation

Merryoldgoat · 26/11/2018 20:40

The notation also makes no sense:

Why are they writing B x E = AE?

That’s the same as BE = AE therefore B = A

christmaschristmaschristmas · 26/11/2018 20:43

A x E = D x I, B x E = A x E, C x E = C, D x E = I x A, E x E = B x A,
F x E = E, G x E = J x B, H x E = G I, I x E = F x B, J x E = A x C

A=
B=
C=
D=
E=1
F=1
G=
H=
I=

Actually....are they not all 1?

christmaschristmaschristmas · 26/11/2018 20:43

It is very poor notation I agree !

Merryoldgoat · 26/11/2018 20:44

How is E = 1? I can’t see it but I normally am not too bad at algebra?

If E = 1 then B x A = 1 so either B & A are also 1, or they’re both -1...

TeenTimesTwo · 26/11/2018 20:45

F x E = E => F = 1 or E=0

C x E = C => E=1 or C = 0

E x E = BA => E isn't 1 or 0

F=1, C = 0;

and my brain hurts

Merryoldgoat · 26/11/2018 20:45

Sorry, this is making me angry 😡

OP - can we have a pic of the actual work set?

GreenEggsHamandChips · 26/11/2018 20:45

No they are all numbers between 0 and 9
F is either 1 or 0

littlethings99 · 26/11/2018 20:45

Following Merry's point, I think then
A=B=D=E=F=I=1
G=J=H=C=???
which doesn't make sense as a question?

I think then it's meant to be X x Y = ZA
as in 4x3=12 type thing

cornflakegirl · 26/11/2018 20:46

Assuming 10 digits, think c=0

Merryoldgoat · 26/11/2018 20:46

How is F zero?

kicker · 26/11/2018 20:46

I thought
A x E=DI
Bx E= AE
so AE=DI=BE
then I got confused. She's doing fractions at the moment not algebra so I am non plussed

OP posts:
cornflakegirl · 26/11/2018 20:46

So then j x e ends in 0 so J = 5

GreenEggsHamandChips · 26/11/2018 20:47

It's Not algebra.

If you try to algebra it you've got to rewrite each 2 digit as so many 10s and so many units so AB becomes A*10+B

cornflakegirl · 26/11/2018 20:49

E is even
F =1

Merryoldgoat · 26/11/2018 20:49

@Greeneggshamandchips

If it’s not Algebra then it’s just nonsense. This isn’t maths - it’s bollocks.
