Yup - if I realy enjoy a book I’ll definitely read it again. There are some books I’ve read dozens of times - they’re like old friends to me at this stage.

My favourite book of all time is A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving which I read about once a year. I think i discover something new everytime I read it.

I do read new books too, but if they don’t ‘stick’ with me then they’re off to ge charity shop usually!

Blanchedupetitpois · 26/11/2018 19:47

I’ve read shadow of the wind 3 times, I love it. I warn you though, the others in the series aren’t nearly so good Sad

MrBurgessWha · 26/11/2018 19:47

Gah sorry for typos- I have a sleeping baby on me!

JacquesHammer · 26/11/2018 19:48

God yes. I read my favourite 3/4 times a year.

Others I have are like spending the day with old friends.

Love a re-read.

vampirethriller · 26/11/2018 19:49

Yes, I've got quite a few I keep hold of. I'm re reading Life After Life at the moment, third time.

Hefzi · 26/11/2018 19:50

Definitely - books are my friends. Colin Cotterill or Stella Gibbons are both comfort reading, and I've read various other series umpteen times over the years.

FuckCalmRhageOn · 26/11/2018 19:53

Blackdagger brotherhood series by JR Ward. Think there's 14 in the series so far. One released every year. I reread the entire series before a new book comes out and always remember something I'd forgotten. My favourite guilty pleasure is this series.

ChampagneCommunist · 26/11/2018 19:54

The Nine Tailors - anything by Dorothy L Sayers, but that is my favourite

isseywithcats · 26/11/2018 19:57

two books i have read over and over are Jack london into the abbys about him going into the underbelly of the east end of london at the beginning of the 1900s undercover as a poor sailor, its a fascinating book and shows the other side of edwardian life,
and the ragged trousered philanthropists by robert tresstle same era about how the bosses put down and keep down the working man, both very well written interesting books

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 26/11/2018 19:58

There's lots I re-read. I read the Sherlock Holmes books every couple of years. Find something new every time.

I really enjoyed the Shadow of the Wind. I didn't realise there were more in the series.

TheSultanofPingu · 26/11/2018 19:59

I've just started reading Shadow of the wind again too. I'm going to re read the others in the series as well before starting his new one. I do this to remind myself of the characters, plot etc. I love these books.

FadedRed · 26/11/2018 20:01

The Merlin trilogy of four books (yes, three about Merlin then the fourth about Mordred) by Mary Stewart. I’ve been rereading for so long I had to buy new paperbacks as the first set fell to pieces Blush, now got them on my Kindle.
Often reread favourites, get new surf/ better understanding on rereads.
Also feels like having old friends to visit.

Cantthinkofabloodyname · 26/11/2018 20:16

Swan Song by Robert R McCammon and a few of the Stephen King novellas are my favourites

SumitosIsMyWall · 26/11/2018 20:28

Yep. I'm planning a revisit to the Dark Tower books next year because...well 19 Grin

There are 3 or 4 authors I can read again and again. Each reading reveals a new insight into what is happening. I love it.

Crappygilmore · 26/11/2018 20:58

Lowering the tone but mine are Jilly Cooper 's, Riders ect . I have read them over and over in times of great need esp when life if getting me down. They are my go to feel good escapism novels.

freddiemercury · 26/11/2018 21:03

crappygilmore I've always said jilly cooper would be my specialist subject on mastermind..read them constantly...and not only Riders etc... but Imogen/Octavia et al. dick Francis books too. Know them off by heart!!
I've so read Birdsong and The Secret History dozens of times...

Petalflowers · 26/11/2018 21:03

i’m With you with Jilly Cooper.

Daffodillie · 26/11/2018 21:11

I have three books that I have read over and over again, none of them are famous in any literary circles but I love them and will never throw them away: Victoria Line Central Line by Maeve Binchy (so dated now!), The Road (for when I am feeling miserable and apocalyptic) and a spectacularly trashy historical novel called "Yes Mama" by Helen Forrester. I'm not sorry or embarrassed , either 😁

darkriver198868 · 26/11/2018 21:13

I have read the Harry potter series at least 20 times. It takes me about 10 days to get through the series.

5foot5 · 26/11/2018 21:43

I re-read my favourites regularly.

I have just finished re-reading one of my favourite Christmas books, "The Twelve Days of Christmas" by Trisha Ashley. I always read it oce a year but try to hold off until at least mid-November.

Lovingbenidorm · 26/11/2018 21:51

I go through Sir Terry Pratchett ‘s Discworld books like painting the Forth Bridge!

Pinkyponkcustard · 26/11/2018 21:53

Any of the jilly cooper books, rivals has got me through some tough times. I find them ridiculously comforting.

Nanny0gg · 26/11/2018 21:57

I go through Sir Terry Pratchett ‘s Discworld books like painting the Forth Bridge!

Grin I'm due to start again!

There is a very old series of books which I love. I read them over and over again, and even though I know what will happen, when a couple of characters die I still cry.

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 26/11/2018 21:58

@5foot5 is that the one where the protagonist is a house sitter, and gets snowed in? Grin I read that one most Christmases as well.

I'm not a great sleeper and tend to listen to the Harry Potter audiobooks on a loop. I rarely read them though.

I like Star Girl - I reread that every couple of years.

Nanny0gg · 26/11/2018 21:59
