AIBU to be fed up trying to find clothes that hide my overhang?

After 2 sections and generally always having a fat middle and a sweet tooth, I now have this massive protruding stomach and a fat flap that hangs out and down.

As if this wasn't mortifying enough for general daily life (hiding from hubby, avoiding swimming or holidaywear, avoiding gym, constantly being asked when my baby is due) I am absolutely struggling to find tops that are long enough to cover my 'area'.

I'm short so not only fat but out of proportion (ie a sie 18/20 shoulders and sleeves drown me, but will be tight round the middle).

Losing weight and having a tummy tuck is the long term aim, but in the short term I need clothes that make me presentable at work.

I've tried high street names - new look, simply be, warehouse, oasis, next, scoured ASOS and the online ones, there is occasionally the odd thing that works but I have about three tops that cover me and one of them ripped when I put it on this morning.

I just want plain, smart tops, not flowery patterned stuff. It's seriously depressing me. No one else I know has this flap.

I live in fear of flashing my muffin... I have to wear something underneath , tucked in securely apart from in very high summer.
Have you considered shapewear like a waist nipper. It might be better than knickers that don't come up high enough or roll down, or a shapewear vest which might not work with your top...

www.sheego.de/ also do a good range. German company so you can order directly, or also Curvissa stock some of their products.

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 26/11/2018 16:00

Unfortunately swing tops just hang off my breasts and make me look even more hideous! It's frump city, but I've bought tops from Long Tall Sally before, just to get them long enough.

SnugglySnerd · 26/11/2018 16:10

I feel your pain! I've found high waisted skinny jeans hold it in well and then a longer top over. Topshop and Tu have good jeans.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 26/11/2018 16:29

I wear black a lot, long jumpers and leggings . Not stylish but here we are

My aim is weight loss and removal, I'm not sure if that's a tummy tuck or called something else? It's bloody hard. Clothes look good and then bam
Ruined by my flab. It looks like I have 2 stomachs

I also have this issue, I'm a size 12/14 up top (depending on the style) and usually a 10 on the bottom. But I've had 2 sections and I have the dreaded 'flap'. You know what I do? I try not togive a f**k ha ha!. It's my shape, I've had two kids. I like crisps and pizza!

I wear bikinis on holiday, I don't even own a one-piece swimsuit, and I mean normal bikinis, high waisted ones don't suit me at all. Everyone has their body hangups and I genuinely don't think anyone is really taking notice of me as I wobble around the pool. Think about how many fat blokes you see!

I wear highwaisted jeans as they are more supportive in the general tummy area...tip: get proper denim and not stretchy denim. New Look are excellent for jeans, especially if you're short like me (5')

Dresses from work are usually from Primark or Next and are the shift style, with pockets. These shops are good for jumper dresses too, and long cardis that you can put a wide belt around - stick a pair of good leggings underneath are you're good to go!

The Hush Ivy dress might be useful! A very oversized thick t shirt type dress with some stretch, it is a-line in shape and has pockets. I have seen some on e-bay too. It is expensive but very versatile and Hush's quality is excellent in my experience.

SabineUndine · 26/11/2018 20:59

Sea salt have fab tunics that I find perfect for hiding mine.

Cuckooclocks · 26/11/2018 21:04

Flowers fellow flapper here.

Ohyesiam · 26/11/2018 21:07

Hush really understand how to make clothes for those who are big round the middle.

It’s hard. I think mine would only go with a tummy tuck and I don’t think I want unnecessary surgery so here we are. I wear jeans with long tops or jumpers that come down below the overhang but don’t have too much bulk as I do still have a waist above and boxy stuff looks awful on me. I also wear loose dresses with a waist or belt that I can adjust to the right height and width to stop things clinging to it.

It can’t be right that so many of us have one. I know the nhs is struggling but I think there should be help to do something about it as it is left after a medical procedure.

Spanx?

LizzieBennettDarcy · 26/11/2018 21:29

If you use Navabi, use a credit and not a debit card. They are heinously slow at returns, took over a month last time. But they do have some great designers on there. Peter Hahn is another good European one.

Seasalt tunics are great but their sizing can be a bit hit and miss.

I'm an 18/20 and find the shoulders on things drown me along with the sleeves but won't go over my hips! After 2 c sections and losing 3 stone, my stomach is horrific. Shapewear just squeezes the loose skin upwards or downwards. I tend to go for more "lagenlook" as it is generous sized and a bit less fitted to wear with control jeggings.

Box 2 is very good. And another is a clothes maker called CarolineAnn who sells on Ebay, her stuff is lovely. www.ebay.co.uk/str/Caroline-Ann-661

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 26/11/2018 21:51

The dreaded skin skirt 🤣 high waisted jeans, tightish long vest and a jumper or shirt are my go-to

Ariela · 26/11/2018 22:38

This style is very good at hiding a multitude of sins

Our local market seems to have a whole stall of tunic style tops, some with sleeves some pinafore style, ending mid / upper thigh, variety of colours some with patch pockets.

RhiWrites · 27/11/2018 10:21

Facebook keeps suggesting this shapewear system and unfortunately I blocked the ad cos I was bored of seeing it. But there are some amazing things that pull the figure in. Worth looking into?

Also, this isn’t for everyone but exercises like Pilates are great for the abs and reducing the overhang.

SaucyJack · 27/11/2018 10:33

I find skater/fit and flare dresses to be way more flattering than trousers.

Jeans give me a noticeable gunt. Never a good look.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 27/11/2018 10:48

I'm a size 20 and have this after a c section too! I now buy all my clothes in Asda - they're a brilliant fit and have lots of nice long tops and dresses that hide it well. I'm into sweater dresses in a size bigger than I need over leggings with boots at the moment.

I am 5’ 5” and about a size 22 - different shape to you but deffo big stomach.

I live in these from Tours Clothing in a size bigger - I wear them with jersey trousers and they’re an excellent ‘uniform’.

That dress looks great Goat- but why does the model in the video look like she’s arguing with herself in the bathroom mirror?

Pinkkahori · 27/11/2018 11:31

I really recommend jersey swing style tunics or dresses.
I'm short and size 18 too. Last year I bought a swing style tunic in Tesco. I sized down to a 14 to get a good fit on arms and shoulders and it is very flattering. The swing cut means it doesn't cling at all.
I like denim leggings - ie. ones with elasticated waist so button and zip adding bulk.
This year I bought a similar style from Stella Morgan in a size 16.
