Hot hot radiators - urgent or ok?

Our radiators have started to get very very hot (they didn't used to get this hot). I've turned the boiler to the minimum setting but it's made no difference to the radiator temps. Kids are old enough not to hurt themselves but I'm worried the water is getting too hot it may be dangerous. I have paranoia about boilers blowing up! How urgently do I need a plumber? Or can it wait?

Have you tried turning the individual radiators down?

LIZS · 26/11/2018 08:11

Do you have room thermostat or individual radiator controls?

FunshineCareBear · 26/11/2018 08:12

Yes. To get the temp down I have to turn them to under 2 which then doesn't heat the room. Anything over 2 it feels the same temp and they're ridiculously hot.

can you adjust the temperature of the water in the heating circuit at the boiler?

FunshineCareBear · 26/11/2018 08:19

I think the water going through them is being heated too hot? The trvs aren't adjusting them like they usually would and they've never felt this hot before yet we haven't changed anything. The thermostat is working and clicks and turns off the heating when temp is reached, the house is heating up quicker lol

I turned the boiler temp to the minimum ifailed but the rad temp hasn't changed at all.

FunshineCareBear · 26/11/2018 09:00

Get a plumber in.

Poshjock · 26/11/2018 09:09

I’ve had this. A failed part in my boiler ?thermistor. Basically the bit that tells the boiler when the water has reached the correct temperature so your boiler is just heating non stop. It was an easy fix and the engineer had one on him as it’s a common part to fail. I don’t think it will cause any damage short term but obviously those rads need careful supervision!

For peace of mind and safety have the boiler serviced by a Gas Safe engineer. It should cost around £60. Ask him to look at radiator and water temperature.

FunshineCareBear · 26/11/2018 09:29

I did wonder that poshjock with the boiler set on low but it making no difference. I've left a message for our plumber. It's not due another annual check until March.

Thanks everyone
